@RahlyRah: Love it!!!

My original proposal was over IM at work – no I am not kidding

we were on a conference call  for a project and my Filipino fiance got called by his last name only which is difficult to pronounce and everyone avoids.  The guy just mangled the pronunciation so here is how the IM went

Me: hahahahaha

Fiance:  Yeah I have a funny last name

Me:  Yeah well I love you and your funny last name

Fiance:  Do you want to share it

************************

Now we had never chatted or discussed marriage even though we have been best friends and more in the course of our 13 year relationship but had only been a true serious couple for about 1.5 years at this point.

My hands froze over the keyboard and did not move for 5 minutes – and the conference call kept going – needless to say I totally missed what was being discussed.

Finally . . .

*************************

Me:  ummm is that a proposal?

Fiance:  It is a pre-proposal – I am working on the real thing.

LOL we talked and I said no and no again and he talked me into marrying him

He reproposed with a beautiful ring 6 months later but he is such a dork and I love him

His boss wanted to give him an award for most creative use of IM in the company.  I begged him not to LOL

I think that’s an awesome way to be proposed to!  He put so much thought and didn’t change who he is with it, that’s great!  Also him putting so much time and effort into it, that’s what makes it romantic 🙂

From one future programmer’s wife to another, awesome proposal! 🙂

You’d think my Fiance would have come up with something like that… but once he had the ring, he was too impatient and just asked me at home that night.

SO here’s my proposal story… its in third person because i copied it from my wedding website: http://julie-brad.nearlyweds.com/sites/index/217274

Let me also begin by stating my Fiance (brad) is a mechanic and owns a deisel/fleet service shop with his dad.

On Wednesday September 1st, 2010 Brad had come home from work as usual, and Julie was doing school work in the living room; Almost immediately after entering the door Brad’s phone began to ring, so he went into the bedroom to answer it.

Upon him exiting the the bedroom Julie asked “Who was that?”.

Brad’s response was, ” It was UPS, they’re delivering a part to the shop tomorrow and they just wanted to make sure some one was going to be there to sign for it.”

“Oh… that must be some expensive important part,” teased Julie,” UPS never calls me for anything we’ve ever had delivered, even computer stuff.”

The next evening when Julie left worked Brad texted her to see if she wanted to ask their friends Kristin and Josh (who were recently married in March 2011, but at the time had also just recently become engaged) to go out to dinner. Of course Julie did and so they all went out to dinner at Julie’s favorite restaurant “The Lazy Dog Cafe” in Valencia, California (which is located at the mall just across from Brad and Julie’s apartment).

After a delicious dinner, Kristin and Josh went home and Julie and Brad decided to go on their nightly walk with their dog, Oakley, at Bridgeport (a beautiful housing community in Valencia, California that has a lake and beautiful East Coast traditional styled homes). While they were walking they usually walked down one of the small wooden piers that stretched partway over the lake, at the prompting of Oakley. This evening as they made there way down the pier they stopped short as they almost toppled over a women sitting on the pier reading and eating a box of cookies form the newly opened Sprouts farmers market/health food store. After quickly speaking with her about Sprouts they left the pier to continue their walk.

Later Brad would tell Julie that he had intended to propose on the pier but the “Lady with the cookies” ruined it.

As they continued their walk and neared the entrance to “The Island” (a gated neighborhood within Bridgeport) they noticed that a couple walking ahead of them had there two small miniature poodles off of their leashes. So in order to not get Oakley in a tangle with the other small dogs they decided to sit down on a wall in front of “The Island and wait until the couple had gone on ahead with their dogs. As they sat there Brad turned to Julie and said,

“So my part came today.”

Slightly perplexed by the comment Julie responded, “Ok, good.. I guess.”

“Want to see it?”,smirking and reaching into his pocket.

Totally overcome with his obviously mental instability at bringing a car part with him on a walk, Julie looked at him with annoyance and disbelief, “You brought your freaking part with you?”!

“Yeah here it is!” He produced the ring from his pocket to her shock and disbelief over his joke, “Do you want it?”.

“Oh my Gosh… Brad…Of course I want it!” Both began laughing at his joke and then at Oakley who thoroughly had no idea what was going on, and so began whining since they weren’t walking any longer. After several minutes of sitting there reveling in the moment Brad stood up and turned to Julie and said with a smile,” Well you never did answer?”

Which received another laugh followed by her jumping up and throwing her arms around his neck then saying enthusiastically, “Yes!”, Just before a kiss. All of which was followed by Oakley’s whining and tugging about comically.

Hes not the nerdy one, I am. On June 5,2010 on a “last minute” whim he took me to the Star Trek museum in a nearby town and I didnt think anything of it because I had been begging to go since Leonard Nimoy had been there recently. He even dressed up in the costumes with me and put on vulcan ears (believe me this is a rare event) and we took an array of silly pics with a bunch of cardboard cutouts haha! There are a few spots throughout the town which were also Star Trek related so we wandered around town to check them out and during our wanderings he proposed. The towns name is Vulcan. I can honestly say I got proposed on Vulcan….

*sigh*

I’m SUCH a nerd…..
