@futuremrsk18:  I have a really cool job.  I do a lot of different things but the bulk of my job is providing expertise to the Army on chemical agents [what the media refers to as weapons of mass destruction(WMD)] and how to safely destroy them and designing mobile laboratories to be used by the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and National Guard to detect chemical, biological, radiological, and explosive agents around the world.

We also provide support to the Army when they provide expertise through the State Department to foreign governments like Iraq and Libya in how to handle, store, and destroy chemical weapons they currently have in storage.  Pretty much we’re a stockpile of knowledge that the Army has on hand for chemical agent-related missions.

We get to interact with a lot of interesting people…and a lot of idiots.   Ha ha!!

4@HisAngel:  I’ll never even see $80,000! Maybe around year 35 if I work in a rich district.

We both earn in the high 5- figures, both automotive engineers.  Hubs has turned down offers for over $100k because he didn’t want to work for suppliers or move away from where we are.  If we stay in this field I expect we’d both be well over $100k by 40 (30/31 now).

@OnceUponATime:  That’s my only hope too! I work in one of the lowest paying districts in the state but love my kids!

Ex-teacher (hangs head with shame), now a nuclear reactor operator making more than three times what I made teaching! My FH is in public service and makes about half what I do, so we get made fun of by our close friends when he picks up the check. (He is incredible at his job and earns a pretty good salary. I just got lucky & fell into a lucrative field!)

@futuremrsk18:  Nah…I’m just lucky.  I worked in a lab for years and hated it.  As soon as I was able to get out I burned my lab coat and never looked back.  I sort of just fell into this job.  ๐Ÿ™‚

@Pinkmoon:  Yes!  Everytime I see that movie and see the glowing green orbs of VX I die a little inside.  LOL

I don’t make that, I’m another “poor” teacher, and I get paid about 45k a year. The most I’ll ever make is 60k. My writing adds some more, more or less depending, but still not 100k a year. Fiance on the other hand makes 100k+ a year. He is a Small Business Specialist for the US Army.
