I don’t really pay attention to what nail polish looks like next to my e-ring. I think you should wear whatever color you want! No one’s going to be like, “Oh my god, did you see that girl’s nail polish? With that AMETHYST?” πŸ™‚

I used to do this.  My first engagement ring that he got as a placeholder for one he wanted me to pick out was an emerald.  I didn’t like wearing it with anything too bright or things like teal that I had loved before.  I have sapphires on my wedding band now but I feel like they go with everything and I feel like subconsciously I probably thought about it.

@Gingersnap:  I think a deep blue, either royal blue or navy blue would look fantastic with your stone and I also think yellow would look gorgeous (I’m feeding your worries, I know).  The strange part about me thinking about this is that I never worried about it matching my clothes but was always conscious about my nail polish.

Oooh, going with purple polish would be super cute. Even going with a dark purple polish that doesn’t match but coordinates would look really nice.

Ok so I don’t have a colored stone but I have a diamond in a very clean modern setting and I totally understand what you’re talking about because some nailpolish colors just look out of place with my ring. Fiance thinks I’m totally insane, but I had this bright purple color that I used to wear and I feel like it looks too, idk, childish? with my ring.  So I totally feel your pain!

PS- Essie’s spring collection includes “Nice is Nice” which is a pale purple color. I just bought it yesterday and have yet to try it out, but I think it might look pretty with your gorgeous ring πŸ™‚

i have an amethyst too πŸ™‚ I wear either pinks (currently have a sparkly pinky-pink on) or a deep purple since I only own two bottles of nail polish. But I wouldn’t restrict my nail polish colours just because I have a coloured gemstone!

Yeah, I do try and coordinate my nail polish now πŸ™‚ Most of the colours I already had still work, but a few of them I rarely wear anymore because I think they clash too much with the cool tone of the platinum and my green stones.

@Masala: jajaja LOL!

It’s true, actually…  it doesn’t matter at all!!  Wear whatever nail polish you want to! It might actually look amazing because of the contrast.. πŸ™‚

I wear a claddagh on my right hand with my bright pink birthstone, and I never worry about it at all.  Not that you’re crazy for thinking about it, but I feel like almost any color would look beautiful with almost any stone.  With an amythest, you could wear pink (girly), blue/purple (matchy), yellow/orange/green (fun contast), black, french mani, etc.

I definitely used to.. but I’ve stopped caring, because I wear gloves all the time at work.. so when it starts chipping (fast) it looks terrible if it’s a french mani and if I leave them plain they look even worse. I’ve come to kind of like the contrast. Liike, I’ve found my dark reddish/brown nail polish compliments the sapphire in my ring. I’m not sure what would complement purple, though! I bet that color would, too… It’s Haute Chocolate in Sally Hansen Complete Salon Nails.. or something to that extent! I can’t remember the brand name:)

if it does bother you, it used to bother me less if I used neon colors as a french manicure. It seems less like it clashes that way!
