countingstars :  I did not answer the poll question because I have no idea what other people think. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to really know. From my own subjective perspective, when I see a 3 carat clear diamond-looking stone, I just think of it as pretty and have no interest beyond that. I wear an 8.5 mm moissanite (2.5 diamond equivalent) with a Timex watch, drive a 10 year old car, do not dress expensively, and do not care what other people think. There are too many other more interesting things to ponder over than whether someone’s engagement ring is real or fake, what their financial status is, and what they possess or can afford.

I don’t think moissanites are as unknown as people think? They’re featured on brilliant earth, which is SUPER popular, and it comes up like right away when you google “diamond alternative”. Like more people than just read this board know that there are high quality alternatives to diamonds that look similar.

bluepanda :  yes, moissanite is soo popular! Several of my friends have them now too. I say what mine is when someone compliments it because they are popular and I know moissy when I see it. My friends too. Apparently lots of people irl suspect a big clear white stone isn’t real anyway! They just keep quiet, compliment it, or pretend they can’t tell!  Judgements, judgements everywhere. Hahaha.
