@deucesarewild1:  ahhh!! thank you for sharing! 🙂 i think this sways me AWAY from hiring one on a regular basis.

(though i have thought about it many many times and I had my mom’s lady come once, when my in-laws were going to be staying over).

to other previous posters: i really don’t get the sense of superiority. i think it’s kind of a gendered thing.

i can’t imagine a man  turning down a secretary in the workplace and saying ‘no way! i have time to do all my work and my filing and returning random phone calls too! men who have secretaries are lazy!’

We have one and I am very happy that we do – she is awesome!

A pet peeve of mine, however, is when people don’t give their cleaning ladies holiday bonuses, several of my friends actually use our same lady and they didn’t give her a bonus, which IMO, I think is rude. :/

Srsly… did this thread have a higher “snark moderation” count than the “is it rape?” thread…

I don’t and probably won’t just because I don’t think FH would go for it or the added expense. I mean, I There are times when I wish I had someone that would clean my house for me, but I know that I can do it myself. I mean, I won’t say that I’d never consider it because we may be able to afford it without issue and we also might need the help one day. I’m not good at organization or anything but FH is, so we balance it out and help each other.

My mom had a lady that came twice a week to help her out shortly after my dad passed away and she stayed for a few years, but eventually things settled and we didn’t need her anymore. She and my mom still keep in touch though.

Hubby works 60 hours a week, I work 40 hours, we have pets but no kids and dont have a cleaning person. Is our house spotless no, but its not dirty either. We do our best to keep the house tidy.

I usually give the house a good cleaning on saturday mornings while hubby is at work, Sucks but it has to be done.

We never had a cleaning lady growing up even with though my parents both worked full time so it has never even crossed my mind.

I would actually prefer someone come in and cook for us rather than clean, I dont mind cleaning all that much, I hate cooking every day.

I don’t, but I totally would if it was reasonable/I could afford it. I live in a historic (read: old) apartment and I’ve been considering paying a cleaning service to come in and just scrub down the place – it feels like no matter how I attack it I just don’t have the time or supplies to really get through 100 years of living lol.

Yup, best money spent ever. She does all our deep cleaning so I don’t have to deal with it. All we do is light basic maintenance cleaning.

When I was in my early 20’s and lived in midtown Baltimore City in a three story 5bedroom house with 4 other girls we had a cleaning lady every other week.

I live for the day when I can afford one again!  She truely was the best EVAH … she would actually change your sheets and put away your clothes, dishes, toilets, she even did the kitty litter.  I loved that woman.  Leaving in the morning to an absolute pigsty on the way to work … to return with EVERYTHING clean and put away and smelling nice. someday …sigh

ETA: Just think if you had a cleaning lady you’d be employing someone!!

I fought it tooth and nail, some combination of being cheap and some kind of female pride or something.  Then she came once and I walked in after work to a sparkling clean house, clean towels, and clean sheets, and I vowed I’d never let her go.

Our cleaning lady comes once a month just to do a good scrub and the stuff I really hate. I’m also just a piss-poor housecleaner.  No matter how hard I try, I just don’t do a good job.  So she saves my butt.  Between her and my Roomba, my house is presentable about 95% of the time with little effort on my end, which is perfect.

We could certainly get one, but I would find it weird having a stranger getting that close to my dirty stuff. I don’t like cleaning, but I’d rather do it than trust a stranger in my house. It even weirds me out a little in hotels, sometimes I just say screw it and put the Do Not Disturb sign up the whole time.

Update:   So we worked until 11p last night picking up clutter and rearranging rooms for company etc.

The cleaning service came today and I am in tears.  My house is spotless and organized and it is all done – they worked so hard and my DH who was very skeptical says we are definitely going to try and find budget to do this regularly – if not every other week at first at least quarterly because they cleaned everything and it is so nice.

Best dang $225 ever spent (10 hours of cleaning) plus we tipped

    Whoot

@CMSnails:  She and her followers swear by this combo. I have tried it on a clear shower curtain and it worked for me. My situation may not have been as bad but maybe it will work for you!: http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/02/tub-and-shower-soap-scum-buster.html

And I’ll add my “wow” about this thread. Who knew?! My dad has owned his own home/ office cleaning business for 30 years. I’ve helped him clean in the past. There’s no shame on either side. 🙂

@hellorebecca:  Even I get tempted to consider it once in a while. But then I remember that I did for so long and saw soooo much crap that homeowner will never know about, so I’d rather know for sure that the cloth that got used for the bathroom, was not then used on the switch plate cover on the way downstairs. Bleh. I’m not even a germophobe.
