Just wondering what people think about this because it seems to be a huge part of the pre-wedding planning.
Im shocked (well, maybe not, saddened?) by the extremes people take with their diet before the big day. It seems like wedding planning is already so stressful that this is just an extra huge thing to worry about. The person is marrying you for you. I am not talking about people trying to eat healthier and work out to look and feel a bit better for the wedding, just the extreme dieting and obsessing.
For myself, I want to maintain. I am at a healthy weight where I am eating well and active but still enjoying myself. I would like to maybe tone up a bit, but thats it. I want to be healthy and happy on my wedding day so for me it is important that I keep taking care of myself and eating properly even when stressed.

I really have no reason to lose weight, or at least that’s what people would tell me if I made my goals known.
I’m looking at about 10-15 lbs, but not explicitly for the wedding. I probably would be fine joining some toning program or actually exercising.

I wanted to lose weight but did that happen? Nope. Looking back at my wedding pictures, I wish I would have been smaller but I can’t change that now. My husband loves every inch of me so that’s all that really matters.

I want to tone up and maintain my current weight.

I would like to lose at least 15lbs in time for the wedding. I could stand to lose more, but I’m not going to kill myself right now. I have too much going on. I know I’ll be beautiful no matter what my weight is. Just have to make sure not to gain any weight. My dress is the perfect size right now.

As of today, I’m down 28lbs (Started 1st Feb). I think another 7-10lbs will do.

I’d like to maintain my current weight, but I also feel there’s always room for improvement, lol. I’m in the stage of having nightmares about not being able to fit into my wedding dress!

I gained a large amount of weight due to a medical condition last year and it has been hard to lose it 🙁 but planning for the wedding is helping me to acheive the goal of losing weight – 21lbs down since Feb… but another 60 to go!!!! good job I have a long time to the wedding!!

@MapleMoose: Same, I want to tone up and maintain weight. I figure I want to tone my arms most since everything else will be covered by a white poofy dress…

my biggest thing is that i want to be toned. and i am SLACKING. big time.
i’m definitely a healthy weight, but i have a wee belly. i just carry a bit of unncessary fat that i’d love to get rid of, but i don’t think it’s possible. i used to row and even then, after working out 6 days/week i still wasn’t pleased.
i know i can tone my arms/back though, i really need to start soon.
anyway, my BMI right now is 22.8
i wouldn’t mind losing a few pounds, but it’s not a main focus

I’m curious as to reasons of the two Bees who voted that they wanted to have a BMI of over 35. Care to share?

I’m fortunate to be at a healthy weight, and I want to maintain it. AND, work on my arms… I have about 50 days to get some better muscles! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to lose weight for years, but never found a strong enough motivator. I gained 15 pounds in college and am still holding on to 30 pounds from when I was pregnant with my daughter. And she’s 3! So I’ve been overweight for a while. If I have to look at my wedding photos for the rest of my life, I want to know that I felt and looked my best on that day. So that’s my goal!
I don’t plan to crash diet or anything unhealthy like that. I have lots of time to make healthy changes to my diet and add exercise to my routine. You’re right about the fad diets and how terrible they are. I get upset when I see those threads on the board, because I had a friend who got married a few years ago and went on one of the popular fad diets. She ended up in the hospital and did some serious damage to herself. She now lives on a super-restrictive diet and still has to get testing done because of all the problems the diet caused. Definitely not what I want to do!

I began to work out back in December in order to become more fit, it has helped and I have never been so proud of myself! I took my time and have changed my eating habits….issue is I have gone below my ideal. I realized this when I went for my fitting and the 6 wouldn’t even stay up, luckily DB exchanged the dress for a smaller size 4P and it still had to be taken in.
It’s bittersweet I guess. My BMI is 18.7, which is good but slighlty on the lighter side but there isn’t a lot I can do about it until after the wedding anyway. My final dress fitting and pickup is tomorrow so I am trying hard to maintain. Issue is, I have to count calories and have because I want to maintain and not lose as much as I have (only a total of about 10 lbs) but I was only 117 to begin with. It is hard to know what you burn for calories during excercise, you can only really guess. I have clearly underestimated so far, it’s a numbers game whether your trying to lose, gain or maintain. My life was so much easier before!
On the plus side! My arms rock, my legs are muscular and my stomach is flatter than ever. Not sure how well I’ll keep it up though! We just recently had health assessments at work (where I got my BMI) and they also checked cholesterol and all that, everything came out ideal so maybe I should try!

I need to lose three more pounds to hit goal.
It’s just because I’m vain and I want my pictures to look good. There. I said it.
