We’re doing $45k of renovations on the house we bought after the wedding and before we move in and the wedding money has really helped.

We put it toward our honeymoon. We did not need the wedding money to fund the honeymoon, and we did not do a honeyfund, but we decided to convert the money we received (much of which was given in cash) to the currency of the country we traveled to and use that as our spending money. It def made us feel better about certain splurges!

We received a lot more than we thought we would so we did treat ourselves a bit more than we would have on our honeymoon. The rest went into savings until we figure out how we want to spend it.

I wouldn’t care if my guests knew how we spent it and I wouldn’t care how a couple spent money I gave to them as a gift.

My husband and I start living separately next week because I’m attending school across town. Most of our gift money went into things like furniture, our new rent, and school supplies/equipment. Granted we had a small wedding so not a ton of money was gifted lol. But it helped!

We are doing a Destination Wedding so we don’t expect or anticipate gifts, since everyone traveling to be there is above and beyond what is normally asked of guests. If we do end up being gifted any cash, we will probably just put it into our joint house account to eventually go towards our next project. Again, though, I’d be a bit taken aback if anyone did give us gifts or money and would feel kind of bad about it. I already have a hard time accepting that it is reasonable to ask people to travel for our wedding and FH has to consistently remind me that most of our guest list would have to travel no matter where we had it and at least this way they get a fun vacation out of it.

sboom :  Same with us. We’ve had people asking us nonstop for our registry though so we finally just scrambled one together. And our guests also would’ve had to travel pretty much no matter what as our familys are literally across the country from each other (PNW and NE).

We’ll probably spend any gifted money on home improvements/upgrade our acreage.

Put a big chunk of it into a down payment on a 2018 Yukon Denali for me. No ragrets ✌🏻

sboom :  Yup! And we’re doing a destination wedding in an area that’s not the easiest to get to at that time of the year. We were expecting a 60% (or more!) decline rate but it’s turning out people are just completely amped to come out and celebrate. I think most of our circle plans a winter vacation anyway so this has just been folded into their normal ski plans.

I’m not sure how much money we will get but anything we do get we will put towards our honeymoon and if we get more than expected (more than we’d use as spending money) we’ll put it into savings since we’re going to TTC shortly after the wedding 🙂
