(Closed) Spinoff: How do you REALLY feel about your ring?

  • poll: How do you REALLY feel about your engagement ring

I ABSOLUTELY love my e-ring - it's so very me in every way

I really like it - it's beautiful & suits me but needs a *little* something to be 100% perfect

I like it - it's not really me but I've grown to love it

Meh! It's alright but it's just a ring. I neither like it nor dislike it

I really don't like it - it isn't my style but I wear it because of what it is

I HATE it - what was he thinking buying me that? I don't even want to wear it

I don't have a ring but wanted to vote

@Chrysoberyl:  Just saw your edit that he picked out your ring himself–he did such a great job!! I’d like to hold off on showing the final version of my ring until I have the real one in hand.

But, in the thread below is a mockup I made of the ring. I was debating between a round and oval stone. We went with the round stone (so the second image). My mockup isn’t very good. The official 3D rendering has the side stones a little smaller, so the proportion is better and the center stone really pops. The profile view is also different (it’s pretty basic, but I like how it looks).

    @pineapplez17:  PURPLE SAPPHIRE!? GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!

You know it makes me wonder.. why is it that clear stones are considered “diamond simulants” and not just.. other clear stones?

I don’t think anyone would look at a purple sapphire and be like, “Oh that’s a nice amethyst simulant you have there.”

    You know what I mean?

@Chrysoberyl:  that’s a good point, I never thought of it that way!!

also…thanks!! that’s the actual stone too (although squished sort of funny…like I said, bad mock up!), but you get the idea of the color. I orginally thought we’d do diamond (because most people do), but SO asked what I thought about getting something with color. Now I get a gorgeous purple ring that is totally me (I’m a crazy purple girl!). I’m so excited!!! Can’t wait for SO to stick that baby on my finger!! (and of course I’m excited for us to be engaged!)

Fiance picked it, but if I’m being honest, I’d prefer the center stone to be smaller (maybe) and shinier.

@pineapplez17:  yeah yeah engaged blah blah blah

BUT OOOH PRETTY RING! LOL. Priorities, right? hahaha

That purple is sooooo beautiful! I adore purple as well.

Apparently the purest Alexandrite goes from rich green to bright red, the lower quality it is, the closer to blue and purple it is.

I think my stone is PERFECT. I wouldn’t want higher quality simply because I wouldn’t want those colors. It’s the perfect color of deep purple and teal that I adore. That’s why I don’t want to upgrade… because I might get something closer to red or closer to green.

@Chrysoberyl:  yup, priorities! I think your stone is perfect too! It’s one I would definitely love to see in person (dewingedpixie’s is another I’d love to see). The color change is fascinating! I prefer a solid purple for myself, because I think I would be sad when it wasn’t in a purple phase lol

All I know is that if I saw my ring on another lady’s hand (before being engaged with my own), it would definitely be the inspiration for my own. It is perfect in every way.

Apparently my “dream ring” does not exist. And to go custom, it probably would have been really expensive. So I tweeked my set and got it close. But I wish I could combine my set with this set:

So, I voted:”I really like it – it’s beautiful & suits me but needs a *little* something to be 100% perfect”

    I LOVE my e-ring, but I should – I picked it out myself ;).

Fiance and I had the intentions of narrowing it down to to three or four options so he could decide later and I’d still be surprised, but I tried on over 80 settings and the last one was the only one I liked. And I didn’t like it – I loved it. It made me cry – and, FWIW, I didn’t cry when wedding dress shopping at all.

I don’t think the “what would I think if I saw it on someone else” test works for me, though – I love my ring because it’s so ME – that’s what everyone who sees it says. I love a lot of other women’s rings, but I would never wear them.

it isn’t what i planned on, it isn’t what i thought i wanted, but i won’t change it.

right now, however, it needs to be resized. i put it on today, and had such an issue taking it off tonight (i don’t wear it when i sleep). so i’m not thrilled with it at the moment cause i can’t wear it until it’s sized.

There are so many beautiful rings on this thread!

Separating the emotion for the object, I can honestly say that, aesthetically, I love my rings. They suit my style and personality to a tee. However, I did choose the stones and settings after months of research so, of course, they were going to be very suited to my tastes and be exactly what I wanted.

Fiance and I went ring shopping together, and he saw it in the case and asked me to try it on. I took one look at it and said, “That is HIDEOUS!” But he was very insistent. Well, I don’t know what happened, but the minute it was actually on my finger, I fell in love. It just looked so different on my hand compared to how it looked on display. So I started out disliking it, but now I absolutely adore my ring 🙂

I haven’t seen my ring yet but I chose the stone and the setting and I really like it. I have a big hand (size 8) and I think 2.27 carats for the solitaire is big but I feel like I could have gone a bit bigger and still not looked over the top. For my job and budget though…it wasn’t happening 🙂

My ring is everything I never knew I wanted! I was looking for a solitaire but immediately fell in love with this robe and we bought it together on the spot even though we had no intentions to even look at rings yet lol it takes a lot to make me sure of something but I was sure of this ring. And getting an amazing deal doesn’t hurt lol
