Inspired by the inappropriate 13yr olds on facebook thread…How old were you when you started dating? Did your parents have any rules about it or an age you had to be when you started? Please also post whereabouts you’re from too, because I think region probably affects this 🙂
I’ll start…I was 16 when I went on my first date. Wasn’t allowed to date before then. My sister was the same way and so were my cousins and most of my friends in high school.
eta: Just wanted to clarify what I meant by dating…I mean leaving the house unchaperoned with a boy (or girl!!) on a date…

16, and hid it from my parents until I was nearly 18. I had super strict Asian parents that didn’t want me to date until post college!

- Wedding: September 2011 - Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California)
My parents didn’t want us dating before 18. One of my sisters definitely skirted that a bit. I, on the other hand, was very good and very not interesting in dating around, so I didn’t date anyone for a long time. Darling Husband is actually the only guy I’ve ever dated, and we ddin’t start going out until I was 21. I’m nerdy, yes!

Just barely fifteen, but stayed with him til I was eighteen.

First Boyfriend or Best Friend at 13, didn’t break up until I was 17 years old=)

If you call hanging out around the house with watchful eyes, holding hands, quick smooch on the lips when we could steal a little kiss, and calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend dating, then I was 14.
The first time I actually went out with a guy on my own was when I was almost 16. But still very strict rules… had to be in public place, had to be home by certain time (early), had to call and check in with mom and dad frequently from their ancient cell phone… etc. 🙂

My parents never set boundaries, even though my Dad was from Texas.
I had my first boyfriend at 13 and we dated all through high school.

I was 14 when I went on my first date. But my parents never had any rules about when I was allowed to date.

I wasn’t allowed to date till 16, though that wasn’t a big deal for me.

I went on my first date at 15 (a few months before I was 16). I didn’t really have an age at which I was “permitted” to date. I don’t know what my parents would have done had I wanted to date at 14. It did cause a bit of a ruckus though, because I dated someone my older sister was interested in – and my parents knew about it all! (They were both age 17, although he was only one grade above me because of timing of his bday. We hung out with the same group of friends, age 15-17, at that time.) My parents asked me to be sensitive to my sister and told me they wouldn’t forbid it (on the theory that would drive me straight to him). Being 15, I was not so sensitive. We (innocently) dated a few months, didn’t talk for years, but then would get together for some fun every few years when I was in town, until I met Fiance.

Met my first love at summer camp the year I turned 15. It was family camp so we were actually both there with our moms. My dad had always said not until I was 16, but because of the circumstances (it was long distance, and we mostly just talked on the phone, and when we did see each other, it was always with parents nearby), it was okay. By the time he and I broke up (I remember seriously thinking I would NEVER love anyone again..hehe), I was over 16 and allowed to date.

My parents didn’t have any formal rules about it. They did keep me from getting a driver’s license until I was 20 so that put a crimp in things. However I was also really really shy so I wouldn’t have dated much anyway until college.

I was allowed to have a boyfriend when I was 13, but the guy had to come home and introduce himself. I started dating my current Fiance when I was 14.

I was 21–I had no interest in dating people from my hometown, so I waited until I went away to college.
