I never thought I would marry someone who was a Marine
I never thought I’d marry someone who didn’t have a college degree.
These were both on my very short exclusion list (3 things: military, no college, kids) when I started online dating. I’d seen my best friend deal with military deployments and I didn’t want to do it, I’d tried dating people who hadn’t been to college and as someone who’s been in school for my entire life I just had nothing in common with them. And I don’t want kids so I didn’t want to inherit someone else’s.
When he first contacted me he was very entertaining, even via the awkward online dating emails. So I gave him a shot. He was great, didn’t deploy anymore, and was ridiculously intelligent and just hadn’t gotten around to going to college yet (16 years as a Marine). A year and a half later we tied the knot and I couldn’t be happier.

I never thought I’d marry someone (my FI) who….
• Had a bunch of tattoos, a motorcycle, and unusual piercings. I’m cool with tattoos and piercings just thought I was too boring for that type of ‘bad boy’ dude. Well he is a FORMER bad boy.
• Was in the military. Guess I thought they were all a bunch of rowdy jarheads. We’re not exposed to much military culture here in Seattle so I was stereotyping. Whew I thought they looked good in uniform though.
• From another country. Canada. That explained why he was so nice, lol. No actually he’s lived here in the US since he was a toddler.

I never thought I’d marry someone who didn’t have or like tattoos.
I never thought I’d marry my high school sweetheart. In high school I was never really serious about dating and whenever a friend would complain about their boyfriend problems I would say, “Just break up with him then, it’s not like you’re going to marry him” lol!
I never thought I’d marry someone who would be gone as much as he is for work, and even more surprising, me being supportive of it.

I never thought I’d marry someone without an ounce of creativity! (But now that I am, it’s all good because I like to have control over creative decisions.)
I never thought I’d marry someone who hates being in a downtown area.

Same for me! Never thought I would marry someone who was from a different country. I dreamed of meeting an Italian man while studying abroad and falling in love. Never did I dream I would meet a GERMAN man also studying abroad in Italy and fall for HIM!!!
Also never thought I would marry a man with a larger family than me. I am one of 7 and thought that was hard to beat. He is his parents only son with 8 sisters!!!

I never thought I would marry a father. And I never would have thought I’d marry someone as “nice” as my Fiance. He’s my anchor and I am his sail 🙂

honestly i never thought i’d get married at all!
and even when i considered the possibility of ever getting married, i never thought i would marry someone whose first language isn’t english, or came from a “low income” family (not to be snobby, just that i’m from a solidly middle class family and most of my life, i only knew middle income people so i just assumed thats how it would be. and instead, this is one of the things i admire most about him — that he has overcome so many things in his life, including his family background, to be what he is today.)
but i also never imaged i’d find someone who loves me so much and is so devoted to me. or that i would love him so much i would also give up my comfortable middle-class life to be with him and help him take care of his family members who need caregiving.

I never thought I’d marry an engineer (such a different brain than me!) or someone that my dad wasn’t head-over-heels in love with. My dad has always been fonder of a male friend of mine because they are more similar, but I couldn’t imagine being married to a carbon copy of my dad.
I never thought I’d marry someone who wasn’t a travel fiend. He’s happy to tag along with me wherever I want to go in this world, but he doesn’t have many places on his own list to check off!

This is mine too! I had to beg my husband just to get a cat. We have a house now and I thought I could convince him to get a dog. Nope! He isn’t budging.

I never thought I’d marry someone who I had a crush on for years and for a long time was unattainable (married to someone else).

I never thought I’d marry someone who…was the cousin of my 12th grade prom date!
I never thought I’d marry someone who…was conservative with money (very glad about this now!)
I never thought I’d marry someone who… wasn’t as comfortable in social situations as me
