“Everything is politics” as they say.  And I think you should do a regimental toast.  It’s you and I assume most people know that and are cool with the fact you’re miltary.  In the same way if you were attending a gay wedding I assume the guests would be pro gay marriage.  You could argue: no religion at weddings too, because you know, some people aren’t cool with other religions.  A family member by marriage (quite distant) is an MEP and used to be an MP for a major political party and is wellknown so it’s inevitable it would come up.  And my brother works in politics too.  So I don’t really get a choice.
