I disagree – I think this thinspo pro-ana stuff has directly contributed to many, many body image problems and eating disorders in girls who might otherwise have had some unhealthy behavior but not spiraled into full-fledged ED. From a quick google search, this study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2901299/
) references “increased use of pro–eating disorder sites has been positively correlated with disordered eating behaviors and negatively correlated with disease-specific quality of life among adults”.
Anyway, I certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone and hopefully I didn’t. Maybe “harmful and shitty” would have been a better term than “weird”. Agree to disagree I suppose.
(Wish I had time to search more cause this is interesting, but I have to get back to my work reading peer-reviewed bird studies instead of ED studies…)

+1. Is there a single less-important thing that we could concern ourselves with?

I stood to see if I have this gap, since I’m oblivious as to whether I have one, and while I have one while my feet are together, I don’t have one when my knees are. But I also look like a right idiot when I try standing with my knees together because I need to bend awkwardly.

I have a thigh gap with feet touching. I’m not excessively thin, the reason I have a thigh gap is because all my fat stays in my torso and I have chicken legs. 5’3″ and 117 lbs.

I have a major thigh gap but it’s only because I have wide hips I think. Couldn’t find a photo of my feet touching

I really didn’t! If I’d known that it only counted if your feet and knees were touching, I wouldn’t have made the thread. I was really only wondering how you had to be positioned for them to touch at all! I wasn’t intending for it to go this way at all!

Ya, having a gap is when both feet are together. I’ve always had one, I think a lot of it has to do with your hips, and bone structure though.

I agree. The fact that it is even a thing is so depressing.
How about I start a new thread: “how can I get my thighs to be skinnier than my calves like the legs on the Monster High dolls?” or “how can I get my vertabrae to poke out like they do on models?”
yes, I have a desire to be thinner, but “thigh gap” is a very unhealthy goal if you were not already born that way.

for someone in recovery, a trigger warning could be much appreciated.

Oh, sorry Im Australian, so as I believe an 8 is a 4 over there. But our regular clothes don’t go below a 6, which I really can’t understand, because thats a 2 in US. Meaning, to be a 0 you would have to be a size 4 Aus, which is down past kids’ size. Ive never been able to figure it out!

I believe that’s called the “box gap” haha. Men are pigs… 😛

oh! ok that makes sense. well, sorta. silly clothing sizes…
in other news, I’ve become more aware of thigh gaps and noticed my pole dance instructor had NO thigh gap. she also owns the most delicious booty and STRONG awesome legs which I can only drool at from afar. thigh gaps are overrated! rock whatever you have. or tone it. that’s always good, for health too!

+1! This thread makes me sad. I don’t think it is possible for me to have a thigh gap at a healthy weight- Period- just where I carry weight and my body type. I have been underweight-100 pounds- i did lots of sports in high school and was having a hard time getting enough calories, and my thighs still touched- and not just a little. I guess if I were 80 pounds i might have a gap, but thats not healthy for an average height woman. Some of these model pictures (not the bees, but the random model photos people posted) are incredibly unhealthy.

Yeah, I have a thigh gap when my feet are together. I wish my legs had more shape and definition, though. So the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

while I can appreciate that having an ED and recovering from one is probably a really tough road, those struggling with that disorder also need to use a dose of common sense and stay away from weight/ ” thinspo” related threads on WB or articles online while they’re still recovering. The title clearly implies the thread is about a thigh gap, which should give people who are recovering a good indictator to stay away if it is an issue.
