I personally don’t care for the partial open back, looks like it’s just not done right or something.  Some gowns have really short corests, and I think those left open are pretty, but the half and half, meh, not my taste.

I didn’t want a corset because I preferred the button look.  Everyone has their own opinions.  As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.

When I used to do costumes for theatre productions an open corset meant an ill fitted bodice.  It wasn’t something to be proud of, so it’s weird that like ‘stuck’ in my head! I see an open corset and I’m like ‘eww what a bad seamstress why wouldn’t she close that and put in a modesty panel’.  I doubt if I can ever get past that stigma engrained in my head, >.<

@chittychittybanebane: It’s totally your decision!  I just don’t personally like them.  You will never please everyone, so don’t try!  Please yourself!

I personally feel like an open corset back looks like it hasn’t been cinched properly. like you’re still in the process of getting dressed.  However, I suppose it would be a tasteful way to show some skin ๐Ÿ™‚
