Thanks for your helpful advice for our reception tables…now i’m conflicted on what table runners to get.
For reference here is the amazing MS Paint version of my table.

Which runner?
RUNNER 1: Blue lace:

RUNNER 2: Blue burlap table runner

RUNNER 3: French Blue toile

RUNNER 4: Reclaimed barn board table runner (and blue napkins)

I voted for the French Blue toile.
While I like the reclaimed barn board, I feel like it is going to take up a lot of space on the table and end up being a bit of a pain with how/where to put glasses, etc. since it will be raised above the table.

@bretonvirgniia: yeah, it would get really difficult figuring out where to put down the platters/dishes of food.
Glad I could help!

@thegreeneyedkri: I almost didn’t vote for the barn board because of the very issue you raised, but I decided to anyway. Now that I see that the OP’s dinner is being served family style, I totally agree that this would not be a practical solution, as something is very likely to fall over/spill.

@bretonvirgniia: I figure each place setting itself (including glasses, etc.) would probably need a foot of space-so that’s two feet gone. I guess as long as the barn board isn’t over a foot wide and there is plenty of room between guests to set down the dishes then you would be fine.

Number four is my favorite, but I voted for number one since it may not work with your family style meal.

@Brielle: Yeah, I have a tendency to look at things from a functional/worst case scenario aspect-not always a good thing though!

@thegreeneyedkri: i like practical thinkers…I am not one. the table itself is 12 feet long so there should be plenty of space between the guests to put platters and things down. I think I have to do some measurements of the chargers and wood runner and then find out how large the serving bowls are before settling on it.
who knew this could be SO COMPLICATED? omg.

@thegreeneyedkri: HA! So do I!! My bosses (and the corporate attorneys!) always loved this about me, but it drives my Darling Husband crazy!
(I always tell people that, if I were in the NFL, I would be a team’s Defensive Coordinator!)

@bretonvirgniia: As long as you space people out with plenty of room it would be fine then-they could just set the dishes in between. 🙂
@Brielle: Yeah, work likes it but Fiance, not so much. Especially after I told him he was paying bills wrong-that it didn’t make sense and I looked at all his financials and fixed stuff for him. He was mad at the time but now he’s really wondering what he did with all his money before (since he has enough to put $900 into savings a month-whereas he was always asking ME if he could borrow money before that).
