Bows in hair
@MrsUPS: I love those threads lol ! This is my very biaised vision of South USA because I’ve only been to Florida once as a kid … everything else is pretty much from pop culture / TV shows.
Gone with the wind / Scarlet O’Hara
The Secession War
Rednecks and all the stereotypes that come with it
Southern Belles is an expression I learned watching SYTTD, big poofy hair
New Orleans, Bourbon street, Blues music, jambalaya
Walt Disney and ”snowbirds” from Québec who spend all their winters in Florida in trailer parks haha ! Also Cape Canaveral for Florida.
Texas, their love of guns
How could I forget country music and Nashville ?
I love the South, but I do associate it with the following:
1. Very strong Christianity with big Christian music presence
2. Honey Boo Boo
3. Pageants (again thanks to Honey Boo Boo)
4. Glamorous Atlanta women like on Real Housewives of Atlanta
5. Amazing R&B scene (TLC started out in the south!)
6. Frugal ways of life (extreme couponing, etc.)
7. Getting married super young and having kids in early 20s
Slavery, courtesy and mockingbirds.
But I’m from the UK so what do I know.
gentleman with sexy southern drawls
HOT humid weather
Good food ( fattening)
Fried foods, rednecks, moonshine
I love the south! Louisiana was beautiful and everyone was so incredibly nice, so I definitely think of southern charm. Could totally do without the heat and humidity though.
I also saw an unbelievable amount of fried food, fat people and lots of churches.
Say what you want about the South, but nobody retires and moves up North 😉
love the South so much.
Soul food, racism, slavery, peaches, plantation.
@MrsUPS: Warmth – both in temperature, and personality. Though they can definitely be a little two-faced and/or focused on outward appearances above internal qualities, people from the south are far and away nicer than northerners.
The further north you go, the meaner people are, as an overall rule.
I am having a lot of fun going through this thread, noting which ones are people from the south with southern pride, which ones have been to the south whether they like it or not, and which ones definitely haven’t and base their views on pop culture. For the most part it’s pretty obvious who is who. 😀
Nice people (who can talk pretty mean behind your back); put together looking women (I admire this, from the north); conservative attitudes; some prejudices and biases; scary conservatives too, like KKK; gays and libs needing to stay in the closet; yummy food but maybe not super healthy; veggies more well done than I like; big, beautiful homes; gentlemanly men; good manners; teen pregnancy; Obama hate; clean cities; affordability; successful companies and careers; stay at home women; baptism/saving; pearls and Tiffany’s; monograms; being blonde; high quality of life.
