I have no idea what to even put in a poll on this one. The only place I spend cash is to buy my lunch from the office cafeteria every day, and I only do that because the jerks don’t take credit cards! (okay, they’re not jerks, but still … POINTS!!!)
What do other people pay for with cash??

@cora_123: I know right!!! Fi always wants to pay for things with cash — we’re at McDonald’s drive thru and he’s like, oh crap, do you have any cash? I look at him like he has two heads and I’m like, no, but I have two credit cards and a debit card … idiot.

Cash?? What is this foreign thing you speak of?
I think the last thing I used cash on was… hm… probably the pop machine at work. But chances are I used coins since I almost always have those hanging around the bottom of my purse for whatever reason.

I think the difference is that my Fi banks with USAA (ah, and soon I will too! THE REAL REASON I’M MARRYING HIM!!!). They will refund any and all ATM fees. For real. So he can use the ATM in the 7-Eleven to pull out $20 and it costs him nothing. So he throws cash around like it ain’t no thang.
What a weirdo.

im the strange one i guess, I pay for EVERYTHING with cash, if they dont take cash then its a money order or a loadable debit card from walmart…I have a good reason for this, my credit was ruined when i let my brother use my first credit card and cant get another one, and I always run into issues with banks, like having my bank info stolen online twice now..so i refuse to bank with anyone! plus it saves on overdrafting….for me its easier. but when you live pay check to paycheck there really isnt a whole lot of use for a bank account anyway….

Alright, got a poll going now!

I almost always use cash because that is the easiest way for me to budget. Every Friday I give myself an allowance and that is what I use for groceries, gas, going out. Sometimes I only use half of my allowance so then I have extra for splurges like shopping!

I only pay in cash when I have to. In fact, the only example I can thing of is the parking lots around my work that only accept cash. So when I drive to work (I usually bus or train), I have to make sure I have small bills.

Anything I buy off the street, under $10, and my hairdresser. That’s pretty much it. Also I like to keep cash on hand for when I go to brunch with my girlfriends. It makes it much easier to split up the bill.

@lybarra: That makes a lot of sense. I take cash with me if I’m going bar-hopping because let’s face it, I’ll probably be drunk by the end of the night and I hate waking up to a $50, a $40, a $60 and a $45 bar tab from the four bars I was at the night before! If I just bring along, say, $100 and that’s that, then I can’t overspend!

Honestly, the only thing that I use cash for is garage saleing and if they took credit, I’d use it there too. Everything… and I mean everything is paid for with debit. If somewhere doesn’t accept plastic then they more than likely don’t get my business. Get with the times people!

I use mine for fake, pretend, childish purchases 🙂
Mostly, I use cash when I have to, to pay for parking usually. Sometimes, I also use it at local eateries where I know they have to pay the full amount on credit card and debit transaction fees because they’re independent and all.
I also often try to have cash when I eat at arestaurant with friends that I know is difficult about splitting checks. There’s only a handful of those these days.

I pay with cash in very few situations:
When only cash is accepted.
when leaving a tip
when tax will be waived if paying in cash, (especially for large purchases from small vendors)
when splitting a check at a restrautant multiple ways
when it’s a really small purchase, (like $3 or less)
Otherwise I put everything on our credit card with gives us cash back for all our purchases, (and then pay it off completely every month).

I use cash for just about everything. I’ve been putting large purchases on my credit card (to help build up credit), but I always have the cash on hand to pay off the bill the next month.
I had my credit card # stolen a few years ago, so I don’t use it unless I need to. Plus, I don’t like that “the man” can look and see where I’ve been shopping. Call me paranoid.
