I’m so surprised at some of these answers.  They seem so personal… would be difficult for someone who does not know you so well to buy for you.

I personally like anything PRACTICAL.  Sometimes novelty gifts are awesome too as a conversation piece in the home. Giftcards and money obviously, but other things that came in handy were foot care products (like heel grips, fast flats, aloe socks etc.), scarves, gloves, hats, cleaning products for my designer goods (leather cleaners etc), DVDs of movies or DVD sets of a TV series I like, phone accessories…

BASICALLY things I would find useful but a tad too expensive for me to buy for myself.

No booze, no bath stuff or lotions/beauty products, no jewelry, no clothes, no trinkets, no home decor.

Any food/beverage item usually, I do like candles actually (as long as they don’t smell like baked goods), cute earrings, books, any fun photo-related stuff, gift cards, movies I liked (especially box sets), makeup stuff as long as it is nice, etc

Barnes and Nobel gift cards

movie gift cards

smartwool socks, those are the best.

One of my mom’s cousins often gets me sweaters and she has awesome taste, all my nice sweaters are from her. I have no idea how she always manages to get my size because I see her like every other year. (She gets me stuff because my grandmother always gets stuff for her kids. I guess it seems like more of an even exchange to them that way.)

Anything that I will actually use and would buy for myself if I knew it existed/could afford it/saw it first/etc. or something consumable that I will consume (food, drink, candy).

Gift cards are great. Clothing that fits and is my style is definitely a favorite. Quality kitchen items are another favorite but now we’re pretty much stocked up in that department.

  Let’s see…in terms of a gift you’d get me if I didn’t give you a list…

– Christmas decorations, especially those with reindeer.

– Gift cards, especially to a restaurant. It usually ends in a nice date night for DH and I!

– Cozy, relaxing, comfy clothes.

– Anything related to my alma mater.

– Fun kitchen gadgets

I also think in terms of my students…being a teacher, I’ve gotten some interesting things :-). My favorites were my insulated cups filled with candy, gift cards, basically anything I can use for myself. I got this really cute snowman decoration from a student that still graces my house, five years later.

  • Gift cards – It could be a mall gift card, Target gift card, generic Visa/Mastercard gift card, restaurant gift card, movie theater gift card, etc…anything that gives me a chance to buy or do something “guilt free.” Even a grocery store gift card would be appreciated!
  • Books, particularly novels (or an Amazon gift card to use with my Kindle!)
  • High quality coffee
  • A nice bottle of wine
  • Workout gear

One of my favorite Christmases EVER was when my ex-FI’s mom gave me tons of gift cards. She usually got each person one “big” gift and a few small things, but she couldn’t decide what to get me, so she gave me hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards. I got a Sephora gift card, Barnes and Noble gift card, Amazon gift card, movie theater gift card, Cheesecake Factory gift card, Panera gift card, etc. I loved it and thought it was perfect. I was so excited to use them all.

Current Fiance…well apparently his mom asked him if she had to get me a gift…so this should be interesting.

I am all about things that are unique and personal. I am pretty easy to please though for the most part.
