A girl I went to high school with had a baby a few days ago, and as soon as I saw her name, I knew I had to find this post and comment on it. Her name is Chloe. Which is really pretty, if it was being pronouced clow-ee, like most people would. Nope. It seems like she had never seen Chloe written down, because her daughter’s name is Sha-lo. Rhymes with jello.

Just remembered another….Kadoka (I guess “Dakota” just wasn’t good enough?)

And one of the kids on “Toddlers & Tiaras” last night was named Alycesaundra…not so much a terrible name, but a terrible spelling.

@Juliepants:  I know right? There’s a few comments on pictures of her daughter about how Chloe is usually pronouced, and she’s like “Well we don’t care. We love her name, it suits her pefectly, and the pronouciation isn’t that hard. People will forget about the other way to say it once they meet her!”

My favourite part was that the second picture of her was like “Chloe ___ _____ born on May 6th 2012. Pronouced Sha-lo.” Which she didn’t have on the first picture, so obviously people were already ‘pronoucing it wrong’.

@Juliepants:  I’ll be honest, that made me giggle. You earned your BA DUM BUM! CYMBOL! lol

I don’t get it. I know as a kid, I was determined to name my kids something like Cehvyn (Kevin) or Jesyccah. However I grew out of that phase. Some people obviously don’t. I don’t think some people should be allowed to name their kids. I mean, you are giving them the BIGGEST part of their identity. It shouldn’t be taken lightly!

There was a big thing in NZ a few years ago because of the strange names people were calling their children.

– Twins – Benson and Hedges

– Violence

– Number 16 Bus Shelter

Talulah does the hula from Hawaii (it actually was that long!) the parents got made to change her name in the end tho.

A whole lot more got rejected but the above names were actually allowed! – crazy!

Wow, I’ve spent way too long reading this post. But some of the ones I’ve seen havent showed up yet, so I feel I must share!

I heard once of a Pheonix and a Matrix… the brothers name ended in an ix too but I dont remember what it was.

Noah, Moses & Abraham… triplets

I had a Mary Jane Stone as a teacher in high school, which may have posibly gone at least a bit unnoticed had somebody not decided that she should be in room 420.

Tru, without the E, which sort of drives me nuts.

And my personal faves… two sisters named Dignity and America.

On a related note, I met a Teal once and I thought her name was really awesome, but I’m named after a color as well, so maybe I’m biased

And the family a few pages back all named after ocean-y things (Ocean, Pearl, Coral, etc…) I know it would suck to have some of those names individually. But I couldnt get over how pretty they all sounded together…

A kid I went to college with was saying something about a sibling of his named Dallas… I said, “Oh, is that your brother?” “…No, that’s my sister”

OOPS

I had to find this thread and report on the name I heard this weekend… a little boy named..

Race

Named for his father’s love of racing remote controlled cars. I went through several names in my head before I clearly heard her call him that. I was like Ace, Brace, Pace? Nope.

Race.
