6 is too early on a Thursday for most people to get home from work, change and get ready for a wedding, especially if the ceremony is actually at 5:30.  I’d have to take a half day off of work to make a 5:30 ceremony since I commute an hour, it would take me at least an hour to get ready, it would take time to drive to the ceremony location during rush hour, and I would want to arrive a half hour early.  I don’t know how many folks you’ll get staying until 1 though, unless they plan to take the next day off of work?

I would do 7-1. If it was 6-12 I might have to take the day off work to go to the wedding (depending where your wedding is, I might have to compete with rush hour home, getting ready, rush hour to the venue, etc), while if it was 7-1 I could probably make it on time since that extra hour would help.

If it started at 7 I would have enough time to get there after work, but I wouldn’t be staying until 1am.  I would probably stay until 11 or so, depending on how long it took me to get home.

I voted 6 before I read that the ceremony would start 30 mins earlier–def 7 in that case! most people I know work until at least 5:30, so starting then would be tight. If I were a guest I would leave before 1am though…
