– Snack foods basket with fruit

– wine/beer/alcohol

– gift cert for take out food that’s local

– potted plant

– if you have seen the house, a flower bed plant/outside potted plant they’ll like

– housewares you know they don’t have (ie moving from a condo to a house and giving a rake)

the next one that I will give is a really nice corkscrew, but it’s because my friend doesn’t like the one she has and when I was helping her move, we ended up stuck at the new house without a corkscrew and had to go buy a twist off bottle of wine instead!

I totally agree with essential stuff – My grandparents gave us the best housewarming gift, a basket of cleaning stuff!

Whatever you do, don’t give them a plant! (We got a plant for our house warming and it’s a pain in the backside)

I like the ideas of a gift card, or some wine. Something nice and a friendly gesture, but nothing that they will have to keep in their new house, or maintain over time.
