Spinoff from the ‘What’s the meanest thing anyone has ever said to you?’ post. People can be jerks, but they can also be really awesome! Share the nicest things people have said about you!
Mine:
Ex bf called me a ‘precious commodity’. I didn’t understand what this meant until later, but he was essentially likening me to gold, diamonds, etc! π
Someone told me I am the nicest person they have ever met.
And of course, daily, Fiance tells me that I am beautiful, gorgeous, perfect as I am, etc., and because he is my love, even these simple things rank up there for me.

In the meanest thread I talked about what people have said to me based on my wheelchair, so I will share one of the nicest things anyone has said to me on the same subject…
When I started my freshman year of college I was randomly assigned a roommate. She was cool and we hit it off from the start. A couple weeks in she said to me that she had been told in advance that her roommate was in a wheelchair and that it scared her. It made her nervous because she didn’t know what to expect. She said that for a moment she had wished that I had been matched up with someone else. Then she said, “but now I’m glad that it was me. You have completely changed my impression of disabled people. I will never think of them as I did before and its all because of you. You’re no different than I am, except that you sit down longer everyday than I do.” Honestly it melted my heart that I had the power to change her perception to that extent.

@adoc86: that’s really sweet/beautiful. just on the bee, you’ve changed my impression as well π thank you for being you!
recently i was a bridesmaid for my friend andrea. afterwards the bride’s mom sent me two of the nicest facebook messages i have EVER received. I feel compelled to copy the text so you can really understand how ridiculously sweet they were.
1. “Hi ____. I just posted on ____’s picture how beautiful all you girls looked in her new profile picture. However I have been meaning to tell you since that day that you were soooooo BEAUTIFUL that day. And always of course.. You will make a BEAUTIFUL Bride yourself soon.” of coooourse being beautiful isn’t the greatest compliment ever. but i was having a bad day, and it was so out of nowhere and so appreciated.
this one is even better:
2. “_____ I so enjoyed you around during all of the festivities with the wedding. I was actually going to email your mom and tell her what a beautiful girl she raised inside and out. Your personality is like no other. My sister in law loves you too. You just make people feel so good when you are around. Have a great day.”
Awwwwwww. tearing up just rereading it now. This woman, although always sweet to me, definitely has a bit of a cold, aggressive personality so this was SO out of character.

The nicest things people say to me never really have anything to do with my looks…not that I don’t love being complimented on my physical appearance but I really love when people compliment my substance. When I met my bf’s family/childhood friends for the first time, I had been hanging out with everyone all week and I came down to the lobby to leave for a wedding and his friend said “now I see why he’s ready to tie you down; you’re freakin’ gorgeous” and I smiled thank you because that was a nice thing to say but I guess I was kind of feeling like…dang, I’ve been kicking it with you all week and that’s why you think he’s with me? A few minutes later his friend’s mom came over to me and she held my hand and said “You’re a beautiful woman, but inside too. Your spirit shines through that gorgeous face of yours and that’s why we want you for our J
” I’m literally tearing up right now because it was such a sweet thing to say and it made me feel so good!

@Baroness_Meg: Fiance was talking about string theory and how it could be possbile– and how it would be amazing if we got to meet and fall in love an infinite amount of times.

@Baroness_Meg: …it wasn’t actually said TO me…but about me, by a person I never really did get along with, my Grandmother.
We were at a charity auction for the women’s sorority we all belong to, my Grandmother, my mother and I all are proud members of the same chapter, and for this auction, all the members make things that would be appropriate Christmas gifts or decor.. I had taken a lot of time and energy and built a dollhouse, it was a lovely and charming thing to look at, of course the bidding skyrocketed because we’ve got a lot of grandma’s and what child doesn’t want a dollhouse?
Anyway, I was standing in the back after the thing had sold for over $750! And the woman sitting next to my Grandmother said, “I had no idea Nona could do something like that!”
And my Grandmother, in a moment that’s defined me for years now replied rather smartly, “Nona is an artist, hand her anything, what she gives back to you will be art.”

@Nona99: Aww that’s really sweet, coming from someone you hadn’t been close to… It’s nice to know that even though you may not have been close, she still thought so highly of you.
@1stRosie: that is really cute! It would be nice if we could all fall in love with our FI’s/DH’s an infinite amount of times.

@Baroness_Meg: It was a nice moment…one of two that we shared in her lifetime…the latter being the last conversation we had before she passed away where she asked me if I was afraid of her germs because she was dying, when I told her I wasn’t, she asked me to try a bite of the pie she was eating because something was wrong with it….my mother had neglected to put the sugar in her pumpkin pie…it tasted like play-doh…and that’s the last time I ever spoke to her…as last conversations go, generally I like it.

Being told how special I am to Fiance π It’s the small things he says which add up, as PP have said.

I’m an actress. I’m on cast at the local renaissance festival. It’s a really different sort of acting and different sort of venue than traditional theater, since it’s all improv, and we interact directly with our audience. It’s weird, but I love doing it, and I’ve done some pretty cool stuff with it. I play a clumsy potter.
After our most recent season ended, one of the photographers tagged me in a photo he had taken earlier in the season. It’s a picture of me falling flat on my face amidst broken shards of pottery.
Someone else had commented on that photo, “Every time I see another picture of this young lady, I have to wonder if Lucille Ball might have had a grandkid wandering around Texas we don’t know about. They act so alike.”
I cried when I read that. Really? He wanted to compare me to Lucille Ball, one of the greatest comediennes of all time? SERIOUSLY?
Okay. I’ll take it. π
