@hiroshymatetrastar: That’s cute 🙂 My future son will be Foster Maverick and then if we had a second one it’d be Madden Alexander. If we have a daughter, it will be Willow Grace (maybe, we’re still unsure on middle name).

I think in the end, whether you have a common name or unusual name, if people wanna make fun of you, they’re gonna do it no matter what. So name your kids whatever you want. To an extent anyways… there are a few names I can think of that I would never give a child lol.

People STILL try to call me Marci Darcy, and then they bray like donkeys. After hearing it for almost thirty years, it’s not funny anymore. Come to think of it, it’s NEVER been funny.

I also get people who will ask me what my “real” name is, or people who tell me that my name is spelled wrong. Uh…no. My name is neither shortened or spelled wrong and I’m surprised people would assume that it’s spelled incorrectly, considering the fact that I was the only Marci in my high school (over a thousand students) and I hadn’t met anyone else with the name until recently.

My first name? No, but my last name? Yep. And for stupid reasons. My maiden name is a popular male first name so the mean kids would call me by my last name because they thought it was funny. Insinuating that I was a boy apparently made them laugh. It could have been worse though. My real last name is a doozy. My mother insisted on changing the name all together when she and my father married so I never actually had my fathers birth name. It is honestly that bad.

@Meowkers:  You should add a poll!

I have a very, very unique name, even in my culture. I was never made fun of, and I did not go to a diverse school at all or grow up in a diverse community. The only annoying thing is always needing to explain how to spell/pronounce it, but it’s not like I expect others to know how to pronounce it anyway, since it’s not an American/English name.

I think that bullies in school will pick on other kids no matter what their names are. I got picked on b/c of my last name every once in a while.. but whatever I survived.

I was only in public school til 3rd grade, but I had a unique name and never got made fun of for it. I did get a ton of mispronunciations/spellings (still do) but if people commented, it was to say they liked it or thought it was pretty. So I never minded, and like some other posters mentioned – it was kind of funny to see how new teachers would try to say it!

My maiden name is a 4 letter word that ends in as*, so a lot of people liked to make fun of me about that, especially in gym class because people would like to put their back over the first letter.  My first name is uncommon but I get a lot of compliments on it, anytime anyone said anything teasingly/ jokingly it was to point out that it rhymes with molest (not funny at all, and deffinately not true), which gave me a terrible nickname Celester the molester.  I love my name, just not the nickname people gave me, but i’ve learned to just ignore the people who don’t like it, because there’s many more who do.

Sometimes people joked about Brenda on 90210, but I wouldn’t say I was made fun of.
