In light of the other ethics question going around, here’s a classic. Say your dog and an adult stranger are drowning in a lake, but not near the other. You have time to swim out and save one. Who do you save?
ETA: I’ve seen this question get really heated, so please play nice and be respectful
ETA: Assume for the purposes of the scenario that the one you don’t save will certainly drown. And the one you save will live. And you will live. (Did I get it all?)

I would ALWAYS save a human over an animal. It’s not even a question.

I’ve asked my Fiance this question before. He said he would choose our dog hands down! He is our baby!
I love my dog so much…more than I love my Fiance sometimes =) hehe. And I would jump in front of a moving car to save him if I had to BUT if given the choice to save a human life (even a stranger) I’d have to save the stranger otherwise I’d live with the guilt forever.

My dog is my second best friend. I would save my dog. <3

@SoupyCat: This reminds of that other thread of animal vs baby! 🙂 That one got super crazy.

My dog, no question…he means the world to me.

If it were my pet versus a child, I would save the child. Maybe. If it were my pet versus an adult, I’d save my pet and then go for the adult.
Here is why: an adult has a better chance of surviving a bit longer in the water than a child. So there is a chance you could save both.

I am horrified that people wouldn’t save a person first- so disappointing.

I agree. I would always have to choose to save a human being over any animal, even my precious, beloved pet. I would be devastated to lose my dog, but I could not not
try to save a fellow human if I had the power to do so.

Oh! I don’t think I’ve seen that thread. I’ll have to look it up.

Yeah, these threads always get super heated.

@SoupyCat: I know that this was not the question that you asked. However, I would be curious to know how people would vote if the question were, “Who would you want someone else to save — their own pet, or your child or spouse?”

Hmmmmm…..I had a dog that I adored, as much as I might think I would save my doggie I know My instinct would kick in and I would automaticly save a human life 😉
Jeeze im never going to a dog park with a pond agian on the off chance I fall in hahaha!!

As horrible as it would be to lose a pet, there is no way I can justify its life over that of a HUMAN! I would only hope that if I were the human drowning in this situation, that I would be saved.

Maybe you can start a spinoff about that.
