We are living this right now…travel hands down. We are purposely not buying a home (but renting a modest place) and using the extra funds for frequent trips and saving up for larger ones.

TRAVEL TRAVEL TRAVEL!  I want to live abroad, so I am willing to sacrifice a lot for experience.

I took the home. I was just really ready to be SETTLED and I want to absolutely love where I live. I spend my whole life here basically (because I work at home!) so I didn’t want a “starter house” where we’d have to upgrade in a few years. It definitely means higher payments and less extra money for fun stuff, but I’ve not yet regretted it.

@Treejewel19:  We are doing the same!

Eventually we will buy a house but right now we love traveling and plan to continue that for awhile. I absolutely love the place that we are currently renting and the location couldn’t be more perfect.

    Travel for sure!

It’s somewhat funny that people buy a starter home, to continue to upgrade it, then to downgrade. I understand it’s about having room, then not wanting stairs when your older, etc…

I am hoping we are in our forever house, there are stairs, it is quite small but the average square footage of a house was 1500 ft like 50 years ago, now everyone thinks they need 3000+! To much to clean, I have places to travel too!

I would absolutely choose a bigger home. We like to travel, but maybe once or twice a year (anything more gets tiring and hard to play catch-up at work). I would much rather spend 50-51 weeks out of the year being in a nice, big place πŸ™‚

As long as I have *a* house, I would travel over getting a super nice house.

Loving my home is very important to me. I’ve never been able to afford serious travel in terms of time or money, but I’ve always thought that not looking forward to coming home was one of the worst feelings to deal with in my daily life… When I do travel short distances away from home, I still love the feeling of being happy to be back.

Luckily Fiance and I plan on being able to afford both!

Edit: I would also prefer to worry less about daily spending and travel less than to worry about saving up for months in order to travel for a week multiple times a year.  Being perfecty at peace with my daily life is just very important to me before I start branching out.

Voted for big home because we literally Just upsized from our 2bedroom to 4. That said, we were both big time travellers before we met (I am 30 and used up 7 passports already) and have done a lot of traveling together too, so we are super duper ready to settle with a white picket fence in the suburbs. πŸ˜€

We have a nice but relatively modest home (I’m also lucky that he is VERY handy and does things like install and finish hardwood floors for $5k less than normal, etc) and travel our brains out.  Our future together is a picture of living well, without kids, and seeing the world.  We’ve already traveled the globe in our 4 years together and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I’d so much rather live this life than be chained to a big, fancy, hard to clean house. πŸ™‚

a big house requires a lot of ongoing physical labour to keep it nice so i prefer smaller spaces

    can i say both?

years ago it was a comfortable house (not overdone) and 3-4 weeks of travel.

now, it’s a nice house in the location that we like to travel to.
