I agree this is a very nice thread! I was reading the other one and thought “uh oh… I was going to mason jar vases” cuz I think they are pretty cite with some ribbon tied around, and so much cheaper than vases! Now I’m feeling much better and will be sticking to my guns on that one ๐Ÿ™‚

For the most part doing pretty traditional things, and don’t have that much time to spend on pinterest etc., so not sure what else are considered trends per se… Wearing statement earrings and bracelet and no necklace, which seems to be a trend, and ordered my illusion neckline dress before they seemed to be such a big thing! lol

whitemochi622: Did you make the chalkboards yourself? Did you paint over the glass of the frame or put wood in the frame or something else? This is on my DIY list although we’re running out of time…

Thank you so much for this post! I was starting to feel bummed reading the other trendy threads. My feeling is, if you and Fiance genuinely LIKE it and make it your own, who gives a crap if it’s trendy? i’ve been telling people it’s going to look like Pinterest threw up all over my wedding. Oh well!

– rustic venue

– burlap table runners

– wood slice center pieces (with, gasp!, mason jars)

– cupcakes

– signs

– mermaid gown (with lace!)

– rose gold e-ring and wedding band (who says this is trendy?? I’m the only person I know IRL with this metal)

– mismatched bridesmaids (in mint and coral, the horror)

– Groomsmen in vests and bow ties (no jacket)

– non-traditional shoes (I’m wearing TOMS)

I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting. My wedding is going to be gorgeous and I’m so excited!

carolinabelle:  Yes, I made them myself! It’s really easy. We bought a frame from the thrift store, painted the frame white, and then spray-painted the front of the glass with chalkboard spray paint (several coats). You’re supposed to “season” it, I think, by rubbing chalk all over it and then wiping it down, but I was in a hurry and skipped this and it turned out fine. It might have been even better to do that, though. Then I printed out my design (I blew it up so this was probably 2 or 4 pieces of paper), flipped the paper over and rubbed chalk all over the back, and then flipped it right side up on top of the chalkboard and traced over the design in pencil, pressing really hard. It transfers the design to the chalkboard! Then I just went back and cleaned it up. Probably one of the easiest DIYs, just a little time consuming if you have small letters! ๐Ÿ™‚

Don’t feel bad about running out of time. I think I did this like two or three days before the wedding. LOL.

carolinabelle:  ahhhh! another dukie!!! wooooohoooooo!

we actually got married at The Lodge at Table Rock State Park in Pickens, SC. its so random and in the middle of nowhere – we found it totally on accident. its about 45 min to an hour south of Asheville. So freaking beautiful! it doesn’t look like much and its really not user friendly, but cheap so we made it happen and it turned out lovely ๐Ÿ™‚

Rustic DIY! No mason jars, but lots of vintage-y and handmade decor. I would do it the same way all over again! Burlap, barnwood signs, etc. Lots of Pinterest-type photo ops (getting ready … jumping on the bed …) Strapless dress, loose curls, flower petals on my burlap aisle runner … Fight me!!

We will be using my fiance’s photo booth! I personally love them. I don’t care if they’re “trendy”. I think it’s a great way for you and your guests to make memories at your wedding and I know that whenever my fiance does a photo booth for another wedding, the photos are a blast to look through even though I don’t know the people. (Side note: not that I randomly look through other people’s photos. He gets permission to publish them on his company’s facebook page)

We’ve embraced a chalkboard motif. I designed a bunch of signage that we’ll just be printing on matte card stock and placing in some cheap wooden frames. I think it is a good way to carry our vintage-style ceremony venue over into our modern reception venue. We’re also using brushed silver lanterns that have an antique look to them for our centerpieces.

I have a lace mermaid dress. I adore it. It has a tulle skirt, so it isn’t completely lace and it isn’t strapless, but I feel like it’s pretty trendy right now.

ClaudiaKishi:  I LOVE your venue and all of your inspiration photos. And I happen to think there is nothing sweeter than rustic invitation suite. WHY does everyone need to be so negative all the time?!

208bride:  So great!! Where did you get ALL those wood slices? I am on the hunt and can’t seem to find a surplus at a reasonable price. That last picture with you falling back in your dress is the bee’s knees.

I’m using a photo booth and they are amazing quality photos. I’m also wearing a strapless dress (the horror!) My Maid/Matron of Honor will be in a different dress and different color than everyone else in the party.

Again, long hair don’t care.

Bee Keeper

I was married eons ago (OK, just 3 years ago), but the things I kept– even though they were just becoming popular in style were:

  • Cowboy boots for bride and bridesmaids: since I actually own a horse, spend my days in a barn after work and like the country lifestyle- I figured I had enough  “country cred” to do it and not give a rats ass if anyone thought it was too Pinteresty lol
  • Dropped Waist Ballgown: it looked pretty bitchin’ on me, so I liked it… would do it over again and haters be damned!
  • Burlap table runners: my grandmother actually made them for me, and they turned out great! Would definitely do it over again with them
  • Shepherds hooks with mason jars: there’s a reason why this is a trend, because it looks great and it super affordable. Again, haters gonna hate
