Does anybody have a maximum carat weight they’d accept? Or know anyone that does?
I know this might sound ridiculous, but I’ve made it clear that I refuse to wear anything over 2.5 carats. I feel bratty saying it because something is awkward about having any kind of expectations, I think. Regardless of big or small. I kind of just blurted it out when we were looking at rings and I feel bad about it now.
So am I the only freak in the world who has a limit on the sparkle?

@DeadlyNightshade: I do. I don’t want to worry about getting mugged. I’ve never tried to quantify it though because its tricky to determine since tcw looks very different from a large solitaire. I would probably accept the ring and reset it as a pendant/necklace. I think you can get away with more bling in a necklace and its easier to wear occasionally.

I didn’t want much more than a carat, and both FH and my mom knew that. I didn’t want him thinking I was expecting an enormous rock.
I don’t think it’s bratty at all. We all have preferences and what we’re comfortable with.

@DeadlyNightshade: I do and mine is pretty much the same as yours (for diamonds, for gemstones I’m a little more flexible).

1.5 carat was my limit (and that was seriously pushing it). I ended up with 1 carat, although I really wanted a .5 carat.

No way. If I can bend my finger it isn’t too big.

I didn’t really at first, but after trying on rings I realized that anything bigger than 1 carat looked too big on my finger for me.

Yes 1.5 would be my limit too. I mostly work in a lab so anything over that would get impratical. I already am careful about my ring in not awesome neighborhoods since my mom’s was stolen from our house as a kid, but if I had a ring bigger than 1.5, I would be self consious all the time about it and hyper paranoid. Now if I had a big 2K or more diamond in a pendant that I took out on fancy occasions then that would be okay with me. 😉 A nice pear shaped giant blue sapphire pendant would be even better.

Yeah I have small slender fingers, and I tried on a few that felt like they were taking over my whole hand! I don’t really want anything over a 1.25, even 1 is pushing it. But like I said, just personal preference and the way my fingers are!

My max is 2. I have thick fingers though so it doesn’t look super huge just big. I have a .75 though and I love it!

A giant necklace sounds amazing. Especially the large blue sapphire!

I would love to have a 3 carat Asscher….I guess it would have to depend on the cut of the stone. Would I have a ‘Kim Kardashian ring’…prob not. I want to be able to use my hand, wear gloves etc

Yes, actually. I don’t care for anything more than 1.5 carats, and that is pushing it. I actually gave Darling Husband a range of what I was comfortable with (0.75-1.25) I didn’t think anything of it, and he didn’t seem to take offense. But I also think the range was reasonable budget-wise, so that is probably why.
Personally, I just find anything bigger than 1.5 to be too “much” for me. My mama raised me with a less is best mentality, and it stuck! I tend to go for clean and simple jewelry usually, and not super blingy. For a gemstone other than diamond I would probably be okay with a bigger carat size though, mostly since they don’t sparkle as much it doesn’t read as too blingy for me lol.

@Treejewel19: haha Totally
My Darling Husband knows that when it comes to my love for all things sparkly, there is no such thing as too big.
