I just read a thread about ‘ridiculous’ and I realized that I always hated seeing the way that word has been smashed all over the hive. And the ‘devastated’ feeling I get when I see ‘devistated’ or ‘divistated’ etc. I’d love to blame the ascendance of folks getting on the bee with mobile devices but I see it all over the web. So what gives? Anyhow, which doozers do you see that make you go ‘Wha….?’

alot – it’s A SPACE LOT.
they’re their there
definately – it is DEFINITELY
could of – it is COULD HAVE
I could go on forever. If I was a grader, everybody would get a whole point off every time they made the mistake (I used to be graded a point off once even if the mistake was repeated)

I get bothered by the mispelling of dilemma. And not just the confusion on how many m’s or l’s to use. Things like dalemma, dellema, etc.
The they’re/there/their mixup bothers me too.

Seeing ‘I should of …’ it’s ‘I should have‘
also, ‘I could care less’ should be ‘I couldn’t care less’

I’m a copy editor, and I learned long ago to accept errors in casual conversation, especially since I grew up with AIM and texting! But in terms of errors in articles that I see, the way people spell “smartphone” drives me nuts! I’ve seen it “Smart Phone” “smart phone” “Smart phone,” and every which way! It’s crazy!
Another huge one for me is the way people use quotes around “The Cloud” like it’s a big, unknown concept. Uggh. It’s 2012, and it’s just the cloud, people.

“Your pretty” AAARGH I hate it, it’s ‘you’re’!! I hate when is see it on websites that are supposed to be companies and it just makes me think they’re so unprofessional. It really grates on my nerves!

They usually don’t bother me. As long as I can make out what they’re trying to say, whatever. It’s too exhausting trying to correct all of them . Especially on the internet. And despite being an avid reader and educated, I’m sure I make them myself.
The thing that annoys me more is intentionally spelling something wrong, like I see quite a bit on facebook from teenagers.

i’ve noticed a lot of recent posts dropping the “s” off of the end of some words.
its really strange to me, and i’ve never noticed it before a few months ago.
of course i can’t think of an example right now, but i’ll let you know if i see one!

All of these, plus “it’s” instead of “its.”
Also, extremely obvious misspellings. Words like, oh… “Toxic” being spelled like “tocksic” or “hilarious” as “halearius.” There’s no reason anyone should think those words are spelled that way!

I hate when people use the word “myself” wrong. I heard on the radio this morning, “I don’t want anyone to perceive myself that way.” I guess people say it to sound smart, but it makes you sound really uneducated!

@September29: cloud servers, like the one Amazon and Google has. I think Apple recently got one too? it’s basically a server you can access from anywhere … a cloud over everything.

You did ‘good’! It is WELL not good!
This one irks me like nothing else in the world. Unfortunately, it is becoming acceptable in common North American speech. UGH!!!!!
You will never catch me saying it that’s for sure!
