I gave in and bought the DVD. It’s been so frustrating not talking to anyone about it.

I accidently read a spoiler a few months ago about Matthew so I knew it was coming. But it was still so sad.

i watched it as it aired in the UK.  i was not surprised about mathew.  i had read earlier that he wanted out of the show and that the writers were writing him out.

@AcheneMalefic:  Yeah I actually really like edith now. I found her so annoying before.

I just started season 1 on Netflix so I’m not going to read any of these posts, but I love this show already!

I did. Ugh.

He decided not to renew his contract, so they were forced to write him out. Jullian Fellows has some interviews as to why he chose to do it the way he did. He basically had built up them as the “perfect love”, so a sudden divorce would never work, nor would having him get a job at some foreign outpost because he refused to make any future appearances on the show.

Lady Sybil quit in the middle of the season, so she convieantly died in child birth, however she had already been very quiet off in Ireland, which was a pretty big clue on where she was in her interest in remainng on the show.

Yeah, so I’m crushed, I adore Matthew…….but I guess the show is going to take a whole new direction, so it should be interesting to see where it goes. They can only go on for so much longer, as it is a period peice type show, and eventually these type of households do fall apart and change with society as the classes evolve.

Sooo… I opened this thread last night, right after I finished watching season 3… or what I *thought* was all of season 3. Ahhh! I had no idea that there was more than just the 8 episodes in the season – I didn’t know the “Christmas special” or what’s apparently being shown in the US as the end of the 3rd season even existed! Noooo idea!

So I had waited to read this thread, and was all excited to finally open it and talk about season 3 the minute I finished it (or so I thought), and then BAM, I realized very quickly that I had not, in fact, seen all of season 3. (When… Matthew died? What? Is that a joke I’m not getting? Am I confused? Am I getting the name Matthew mixed up with someone else? What am I missing here….?) LOL! It was my own damn fault, too! I feel so stupid!

Anyway, just got done watching the bonus episode. Omg. What a bummer. I agree with OP, I don’t know if I can watch a season 4 without him. (Don’t get me wrong, I totally will, but i don’t want to!)

They seem to be killing off all the ‘good’ characters – Matthew was awesome! Cant imagine what else they will be writing about..
