We had some friends use Spotify, but they had someone manning it for the evening (just a friend). He handled requests, put the songs in an order, etc. He even MC’ed!
If you do this, I think you would need someone to help. Additionally, you should put together a playlist ahead of time of songs that you definitely want. There are tons of wedding playlists that already exist that you could base yours off of.

I hooked my Spotify playlist up to some speakers at my family reunion. I thought the playlist was clean but my grandpa almost had a heart attack once NLE choppa came on. If you’re going to do this, make sure you have someone supervise it.

My cousin used Spotify instead of hiring a DJ and it went fine. One of our other cousins was responsible for the playlists.
