Why are they having you skip all sugar pills?! That is so unhealthy for your body! You should take the sugar pills each month.

I know some certain birth controls are meant to stop your periods altogether, but this specific pill doesn’t sound like it is – otherwise I don’t think it would contain sugar pills every month.

Do you have a primary doctor you could see?

It’s NOT unhealthy for your body.  Women don’t NEED a period. You can skip the off week on regular BC just fine.  I think it is entirely normal that you might have some spotting if just keep taking your pills (skipping the sugar pill week).

Bleeding for 3 weeks is entirely different than spotting.  Go see your doctor

Going from pack to pack (and skipping the sugar pills) is fine to do on occasion.  You just don’t necessarily want to do it every single month.

But spotting is a common side effect of skipping the sugar pills and moving on to the next pack.  There shouldn’t be any compromise in the effectiveness of your pill though so long as you are taking it every day like you should.

Can you go to some type of Urgent Care place?  I don’t understand…are you just spotting or bleeding heavily?

@ForeverBlessed:  Skipping sugar pills isn’t unhealthy for your body. In the vast majority of cases, there is no medical need for a period (although it’s a nice check-in with your body so you know you’re not pregnant).

OP: I’m not a doctor, but I’ve heard of this before. I think it’s basically breakthrough bleeding — your body is used to bleeding at a certain time and still bleeds a little bit. If you’re worried, I would make another appointment at Planned Parenthood.

Are you skipping the sugar pills for a certain reason?  You certainly can do it…but you don’t have to.  I don’t take mine (ok, I don’t take the sugar pills but I don’t skip to a new pack, so I do get my period).  If skipping the sugar pills doesn’t work for your body I suggest you just take the sugar pills and get your period. Then start a new pack.  Your body just may not like skipping the sugar pills and that’s why you’re having breakthrough bleeding.

I don’t take my sugar pills, but I do wait a week between pack and pack. I just don’t like taking the pills, so I just take nothing for a week.

They’ve shown it’s just fine in most cases to go from pack to pack and not have a period. I don’t do it because I am prone to spotting anyway (uterine fibroids) but my sister does. What the lady at PP said was legit, and not unsafe, but it might not work for you.

A few times I’ve skipped the sugar pills and went to a new pack but I would get spotting and break through bleeding too.  I just figure that’s what my body wants to do.  Because of that I don’t go pack to pack I allow my period to happen.
