I want to begin this thread with my birth story!
Baby Cupid was born on Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:43 am weighing 8 pounds 7ounces and 21 inches long. I was having contractions for over a week. At first they began at an hour apart. They picked up to being around 20 minutes apart, the next day they were 3-5 minutes apart. We went to the hospital and was sent home because I was only 1 cm dilated. The labor had not progressed. After going home the pain was worse and I went back thinking, “THIS IS IT”. I was wrong again. I had made some progress and not much. So I waited a few days. We walked around the neighborhood and played video games.
The pained continued to intensify so we went back to the hospital. The doctor said that I was still in early labor. They gave me a shot to help me sleep thinking that either my lack of rest was causing the pain to seem worse it was, or resting would cause things to progress. Keep in mind that I had been having contractions since Feb. 4. I also expressed to my doctor that I was afraid of how my lack of rest, constant pain, stress, and not eating would effect the baby. The doctor said I would be fine and didn’t want to schedule an induction because she felt that there was a chance that my baby was due around the 25th instead of the 19th. I couldn’t be induced until I was 39 weeks (I was 38 weeks and 4 days). She later agreed to schedule an induction (I beleive it was because the nurse at the hospital told her how I felt).
The shot helped and I got rest. The next day I began to feel a lot of pressure when I went to the bathroom. I was also feeling very weak, defeated, and not like myself. I told my family that I couldn’t take it anymore and we went back to the hospital. At that point the pressure was from the baby pushing down, my blood pressure had risen, and my head was hurting so bad. The doctor agreed to induce me the next day and I was admitted to the hosptial.
On Monday the 13th she told me that there was a good chance that I wouldn’t have the baby until the next day. The doctor broke my water and induced me. By the time she made it back from her office I gave in and had an epidural. A few hours later the nurse told me that I had a fever and I had dialted from 4 to 8 cm. We called our parents and they came to the hospital. Less than 2 hours later it was time to push.
It took me 2 hours to push. 1.5 hours was spent pushing out his head. lol I tore and had to get stitches. I was able to walk to the restroom about 2 hours after giving birth. My right leg did feel numb longer than my left. I also had to get a second dose of the epidural because it began to wear off on my right side.
It was all worth it in the end. I have a beautiful healthy baby boy. I call him my little cupid baby. We weren’t able to exchange gifts this V-day, but this year we received the best gift of all.
