Gray is a common color that moissanite can show, along with green and yellow. Moissanite is cut to enhance it’s beauty and if cut like a diamond it would not look as pretty. Round brilliant and cushion moissanite is the whitest. So if you like more square shapes then a cushion might be a good option for you.

Yeah I gotta admit, I’ve sampled a fair share of moissanites for my cousin–she was getting engaged, wanted to change her ring, and then she wanted an update so I ordered mostly for her.  I got the unenhanced Round Brilliant, the FB cushion moissanite, the FB pear, the unenhanced elongated cushion (this was limited time offer), the square cut moissy, and the OEC moissy.

To be honest, the square cut moissy was the worse cut and the worse color out of the bunch.  I couldn’t get it to have the brightness the other cuts had.  I couldn’t photograph it properly.  I had it for a day and both my cousin and I said no the moment we opened the box.

If you’re down to Princess cut–Amora Gem makes princess cuts in higher color than moissanite.  If you just want a square-ish cut, then I agree with

mynx:  i see white in the photos!! 😛

Maybe you are super color sensitive? I have seen many diamonds that looked darker than “white” in person. Like not gray, but silvery?

mynx:  unfortunately moissanite- even when enhanced still shows color and if you are color sensitive you will notice it. The square cuts and step cuts show even more body color than a round or even a cushion would show.

I am also very color sensitive as well as picky in general with the colors a stone throws off. I can do a warm diamond up to a j/k and not have it bother me as much as the colors that I see in a moissy which always appear to be yellow, grey, green and silver. I didn’t like that at all.

I got a G color Amora gem and the cut as well as the color is superior to moissanite and most diamonds I have seen in every way.

Maybe you can wait until they offer an Amora gem in a princess cut and then trade your stone in? I would see with the company if that is an option.

mynx:  to answer your question about hardness of the amora gem. Moissanite is a 9.25 and amora gem is a 9.5 on the Mohs scale.

Amora Gem is a modified moissanite made by BTD.  There are tons of thread here about Amora Gem just Google it.  They come in various cuts, H&A, OEC, Asscher, Cushion, and princess.  Go to Betterthandiamond.com to look at their inventory As I know they have large carat princess available right now.

I have a very white forever brilliant moissanite in Round Brilliant shape and it may show an extremely light yellow/green tinge but I can’t really capture it in a photo. I am extremely happy with my moissy. Would you consider a round? They tend to be a lot whiter from what I’ve read. Here is a picture of my new 9mm moissy… I wanted a big solitaire and loved the thought of the extra sparkle so I bought it and got it on Monday and couldn’t be happier. Even my jeweler said it was the prettiest stone he has ever seen.

The grey color is common with moissanite. I have a 2.5 ct FB moissanite and it looks deep grey in the sunlight. In a few yrs when I graduate with my degree…I plan on updating to Amora gem.

My square moissanite was similar now that you mention it. At least you aren’t alone!
