This is my trick for using sunless tanner on the face no matter what formula:

I take a face moisturizer first and rub it all over my face, I don’t totally rub it in, I make sure there is a light coat on my face. The reason I do this is because it will keep the sunless tanner from absorbing too much into the face.  If you do it directly on your face it will absorb to any dry skin and that is when it looks uneven and unatural. I then take a cotton ball and put the sunless tanner on it and rub it light all over my face evenly. Go lightly over the areas on the face that has a little bit of peach fuzz because it will stick and show up darker in those areas (i.e : upper lip, above eye brows, side of face). It is always better to start out with a light coat and you can always go darker.

I’ve kind of just learn through trial and error honestly, make sure to test it! Creams do tend to work better for the face but i’ve used mousse before!
