I agree that her mom probably found her stash or something and she tried to play the “oh I took it from lisabula, I’m just so worried about her! *sob sob* I just didn’t know what to do!” card. I would confront her and tell her that she needs to apologize to both you and her mother and that she really hurt your feelings and unfairly tarnished your reputation.

Get some incriminating pictures of her next time you go party or whatever and show Mother-In-Law what a nice little princess she really is…. and then chew her up.

This does sound like a “They’re not my cigarettes, mom, I’m holding them for a friend” situation. Mother-In-Law is probably being willingly clueless.

I think that rather than confront SIL seperately, id make sure that Mother-In-Law and my husband were there (clear it up without all of this “hje said she said” stuff”

id try to be nonconfrontational about it as far as possible and just lay it out

It’s past now, but if I’d seen this, I would 2nd the advice to record all convo’s with her. If she’s lied about this, then she’ll lie to you when you confront her. 🙁

*hugs* I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this..

Hoping it went ok!

That’s what I was thinking too.  Oh and OP I really hope his mother isn’t going to use the “I paid a lot for your wedding” card every time she wants something.
