If you are planning to sell the house I would DEF go with stainless steel. Its just something buyers look for. I think stainless steel is definately more modern and considered more of an
“upgrade” then white or black appliances. I dont have stainless steel right now…but we are planning to upgrade our kitchen also in the next few years and will definately get stainless steel.

    I personally prefer stainless steel.

    I dislike freezer-on-top fridges. I like either side-by-side or freezer-on-bottom (I’d most want a freezer-on-bottom, french-door fridge).

We just redid our kitchen and went with black. I think it’s easier to keep clean, I remember back in my restaurant days having to clean the stainless and it sucked. From a buyers perspective, when we were looking at houses I couldn’t care less what the appliances looked like because they are easy to change, but that’s just me. We also went with the traditional refridgerator, but only because of where we had to put it. I prefered the side by side or french door style ones.

Black tends to call attention to itself (b/c it sets up contrast against most colors); stainless steel tends to meld into the background better. So in your case, I’d go with steel.

I think black appliances look straight out of the 90s, personally. Go with stainless steel!

I’m with nqz100. I don’t care what the appliances look like, although white is not at the top of my list for keeping clean reasons. I HAD to have the freezer at the bottom kind though.LOL. My house came with a black stove and dishwasher, so I got the black freezer at the bottom fridge to go with it.

I think stainless appeals to potential buyers more than black. We bought strainless and they do look smudged a lot but easy enough to clean. We have the freezer on the bottom and I am not a fan any longer, I prefer side by side.  And remember magnets don’t work on the stainless, if that matters at all to you.

We bought stainless when we bought our house 1.5 years ago. I think stainless is also what appeals to buyers today so go with that.

For fridges, I hate the side by sides and the ones with freezers on top. Go with a freezer drawer on the bottom of the fridge. You will have so much more fridge and freezer room this way. We love ours!

This is our fridge, but if you are willing to spend more money you can go with french doors.

I love stainless steel with black accents. Black handles, etc. The black is easier to keep clean for high-touch areas, but the stainless steel looks clean for the bigger surface areas.

I agree with @crayfish: I feel like black appliances look very dated.  I much prefer stainless steel.  If I were house shopping, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me, but it would definitely be a plus if a house had stainless appliances.  And I also prefer a french door fridge with the freezer on the bottom.

I loooove the look of stainless, but everyone I know that has it hates it because it is so hard to keep clean. Every finger print shows. Maybe get something that has stainless accents?

We built our house last year and we went with all stainless. In my opinion, I can’t stand black appliances, it really darkens the room and I feel it ages it too. I don’t even like black accents on stainless steel appliances. I don’t feel it is as hard to keep clean as people say they are. I wipe my down with stainless steel wipes once a week and it keeps a shine to it and barrier from finger prints. Never had an issue!  FWIW I do have 3 dogs in our house and my messy husband. After spending countless hours researching models and types, side by sides really cut down on the storage especially when combined with an ice maker. I had a side by side in a condo once and I felt I could never store much in the freezer side and absoultely hated it! We have a double french door with freezer on the bottom. Has all the pull out shelves and double drawer freezer. I absolutely love our fridge and has more storage space than I ever imagined! I know right now I haved stored about 16 frozen dinners, a large frozen pizza, about 6 bags of stuff like tator tots, fajitas etc and I have a storage bin for meat that has 4 packs of steaks and chicken and 6 1 lb rolls of hamburger. On top of all this, we have the bin for the ice full and I still have room for more.
