Stand in E ring feeling weird?

I’ll admit that I don’t see the point of the silicone rings personally… maybe if your job involves using tools where wearing a metal ring would be unsafe?  But I don’t need for the people at the gym or at the water park to know I’m engaged/married.

I haven’t bought a stand-in set.  I’ve been thinking about buying a smaller and less flashy ring to wear on the times when my actual e-ring (which is ~3.5 carat fireball of an antique diamond) would be inappropriate.  I haven’t found what I want yet, though.

I travel a lot for business and often spend several weeks at a time in countries where “big bling is not the norm.. where plain bands (possibly set with smaller diamonds) are the norm.  When I am represending my company on business, I don’t want to portray the wrong image, so it makes sense to leave my actual ring at home and wear something more suitable to the culture.

Otherwise, I travel with my actual ring.  (I haven’t had a beach vacation since we got engaged, but we’re also not really beach people.  If we spent a lot of vacation time at the beach, I’m not sure what I’d do.  But I feel like the safest place for my ring is on my finger.)

Having a travel set that looks just like your actual ring only silver/CZ/moissy doesn’t make sense to me – a large sparkly stone is still going to be a target for muggers and thieves; they don’t generally carry a diamond tester around and test your jewelry before they target you!

tinneranne2 :  I feel the same way, I’d never even heard of it until coming on wedding forums and it confuses me lol! I thought I was the only one. But that’s just me, definitely wouldn’t judge anyone else for it.

I’ve actually thought about getting a stand-in because I’m currently living overseas and we plan to travel a lot. I thought about not risking my real ring depending on where we are going. All that aside.. I will say I also have a silicone band that I LOVE, simply because it is more comfortable to wear at the gym (or beach!). But my fingers tend to swell when I get hot, so wearing my regular e-ring at the gym tends to be a little uncomfortable for me because it gets a little tight, and tends to rub too much in my opinion. The silicone is much softer and more comfortable, and is more forgiving size-wise. You also don’t have to worry about scratching up your ring at the gym or damaging it. If you go to the gym a lot I think you would really enjoy it 🙂
