I have a plain sterling silver band that’s my stand in, I wear it when I go swimming, because my e-ring is gold and I don’t want it to be damaged. I also wear it if I’m going to do something dirty, working with horses or cattle, or doing any work on the farm really. I know I could just take the e-ring off, but I feel very naked without it! And the sterling silver ring has a lot of sentimental value to me.

I have a plain white gold band (that matches my husband’s wedding band), which I wore throughout our honeymoon instead of my diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band. I didn’t want to risk leaving the diamond set in a hotel safe, losing them in the ocean or getting my intricate setting filled with sand! It also gave me the opportunity to have a band with engraving on the inside, since my diamond set is too narrow for engraving. I still wear the plain band on those few occasions where my diamond set wouldn’t be appropriate, like for certain activities or where I might not want to flash the bling.

@ChocolateLime: we just bought very simple, very very cheap sterling silver bands on eBay to take on our honeymoon. we’re going to the caribbean, and plan on doing a lot of scuba diving, so there is no way i would have taken my set there.

I have just one ring (was e-ring, now wedding ring) that I wear pretty much all the time. I have other nice expensive rings that I’ve worn on vacations for years with no problem. However, the whole blood diamond thing makes me uneasy wearing my diamonds on my honemoon in Africa, so I bough a $9 titanium ring on Amazon to wear on the honeymoon.I know that my rings are all heirlooms so the diamonds are over 80 years old, but I don’t expect anyone else to know that, so I’m just going to leave them home.

I think it’s a great idea too. When we purchased our rings, my husband was given a free “sports band” to wear as a stand-in if he doesn’t want his ring to get damaged. It’s made by the same company as his real ring and has a little bit of the same detail mimiced on the side of the band. But it’s made out of a heavy duty metal instead of white gold. I thought it was a really nice touch.

This is my normal set:
It’s beautiful but very tall, and I bump it on everything, so I usually just wear it for special occasions. Most days I wear a plain band or a sparkly cz band. I hope to get a moissy or diamond version at some point, since I find the blingy band is a better fit for my lifestyle.
Here’s the cz band:

@ChocolateLime: I only used a stand in because my ring was at the jeweler’s for a week. I picked it up an hour ago and now I’m back to my real rings!

@ChocolateLime: I completely agree! I don’t even have my ring yet (but I know that it is coming and what it will be!) and I already know that since I am a worry wart, I will be afraid of losing or ruining it. I was out shopping the other day and saw this CZ rose ‘gold’ ring, and thought I better buy it now as a future-stand-in in case I never find one like this again!
This is my stand in ring:And this is my future Engagement Ring (except it will be made in Rose Gold instead of White Gold:
