I don’t get the point of stand in rings, but if you are that concerned, maybe a silicone band would suffice.

I never understand this, a big fake engagement ring is going to draw just as much attention, in fact probably more as people go bigger with fake rings.  Someone who mugs or robs you insn’t going to only want your ring, they will take other valuables, cash, phones, passports etc.  It seems like if you are worried about this you will only be making it more likely.

Just wear your ring when you feel comfortable and leave it at home or in a safe when you don’t.  what is the issue with just wearing a wedding band?

I purchased a small stand-in ring because we took a holiday a couple months after getting engaged and I didn’t want to go without a ring. Now that I’m married I would just travel with my band and leave my ering at home, so in retrospect it was a bit of a waste but my stand-in is a cute ring and who knows, maybe I’ll have a use for it in the future!

this feels really unnecessary.  if i ever don’t feel safe wearing my ring, i just don’t wear it.  you don’t have to constantly wear a ring just because you are engaged/married.

I just don’t wear my ring. You’re just as engaged or married without a ring for a few weeks.

I don’t think it’s unnecessary! I think it’s your personal preference. CZ and moissy rings on eBay and such are pretty cheap, if you wanna wear a ring at all times, go for it! If you wanna buy an inexpensive CZ or white sapphire or whatever ring to wear when you go on holiday- do it!

My friend has one because she loses things when she travels and has a tendency to not be able to find them. She has lost a cheapy CZ but not her real engagement ring that she left at home. Her and her husband usually go on beach vacations so I suspect that has something to do with it, because there’s a lot of getting in and out of the ocean and pools, etc.

There’s no wrong answer to this.

I have the same train of thought as diana148 and jellybellynelly – I personally don’t understand the point of it.  If you’re not worried about getting robbed where you live you have roughly the same chances most every where else.  Thieves who prey on tourists are more likely to pickpocket you where they can surreptitiously blend into the crowd or steal your purse while you set it down and are distracted than to rip the ring off your finger.  If you’re worried about losing it then leave it at home.  You’ll still be engaged.

I honestly never heard of a stand in ring before this forum (even on another wedding forum I occasionally browse).  None of my friends do this to my knowledge and I just polled two friends and a coworker out of curiosity, two of whom travel internationally several times a year, and they all just wear their rings as normal.  Just make sure it is insured.

But you do you.  Is it necessary?  I don’t think so, but lots of shit we all do in life is unnecessary.

My ex husband is from the Phillipines and when we planned a trip I wasn’t going to wear anything. The whole point of that is there are dangerous areas where you could get mugged for the ring. They will still mug you if it’s fake.

If your finger feels naked – mine does – just get a small band to wear. Like a fake pave band or something with a little bit of sparkle but not enough to make someone want to rob you.

I don’t see the point of a stand in ring.  Leave the ring safe at home if you are concerned about losing it or it being stolen while traveling.  If you must wear one to show you are engaged, you probably already have a ring at home you can substitute.

But wouldn’t you be devastated if you got mugged whether you were wearing your actual ring or a fake ring?

By all means get cz or something if you can’t imagine going swimming without wearing a ring but for your specific reasons, being worried about being a target for crime, wearing a 1ct fake ring is sort of pointless and I don’t see how it helps.

I just bought a fun band to wear.

I don’t wear my real ring on vacations etc. Too much sentimental value if it were to be lost.

Now that I have my engagement ring I would feel weird without a ring on my finger. I would wear a silicone ring for the trip. I have an Enso ring in the color unicorn (actually the ring he proposed with) that I wear it for beach/hiking trips and at the gym.
