I’m wonder what yall’s opinion is- which one do you think you would use more? Which one did you (or want to) put on your registry?
I’m torn. I grew up in a food processor + hand mixer household. But I’ve heard so many raves about the stand mixer. At the moment I’m tending towards getting the processor, because it does dough and slices… while the stand mixer doesn’t slice/shred, something my family often uses. Realistically I can only put one machine on my list in the hopes that someone would want to gift it to us. 🙁

in my mind, this is like comparing apples and oranges. i use my food processor all the time and love it, but i use my handmixer for completely different things.

I think you should just put both on the list. You never know if a couple of people will be more generous than you’re expecting, and it can’t hurt.

They are both two totally different machines, and I couldn’t live without either one. I suggest that you put both on your registry and have your guests choose for you. Who knows, you may get surprised and you might get both. Friends and family have been known to combine funds to get one very nice gift 🙂

Hmmm, I love my stand mixer, but I also bake a lot (not good for the weight-loss efforts!). If you dont’ bake often, but you do slice/shred a lot, as you said, then I’d go with a nice food processor.
The stand mixer has become more popular, but a lot of people get it and don’t bake or use it that often and it ends up being expensive decor for their kitchen.

I grew up in a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer house hold. First of all, my mom had hers for about 35+ years before she replaced it with a higher model. It still worked pretty well so she gave it to me. I got a new one for our wedding and I still haven’t decided what to do with the old one. Second of all, you can get attachments for the Kitchen-Aid that do the extra things (slicing/shredding etc.) http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/product/FPPA/ They even make pasta rollers and ice cream makers!

It depends. Do you do more baking or more cooking? A stand mixer is better for the former; a food processor for the latter. Ultimately I think a food processor is more versatile, even though love love love my KitchenAid and use it all the time.
If it’s a question of what to put on your registry, I agree with everyone else – do both!

I agree with MzMarzipan, I love using a kitchen aid, I think it’s way more versitile than a food processor. you call buy all kinds of attachements for it: slicing/shredding/pasta maker/ice cream bowl as well as a dozen others im forgetting. I work with both in my profession and we use the kitchen aid a heck of a lot more than the food processor.
ETA: I probably should have read MzMarzipan’s whole reply because she mentioned pretty much exactly what i did with the pasta maker/ice cream bowl etc..oops!

I only voted on the food processor because we don’t currently have one so we’re asking for one, but we have a stand mixer and I’ll tell you that it’s the greatest kitchen invention known to man! It cuts down on cooking time/work so much! I’d definitely go for the stand mixer if we didn’t already have one. I think it’s a good idea for you to ask for both too!

I am not sure if I would use a stand mixer if I had one but I have always wanted one. I think I would opt for a Vitamix Blender for myself for a big splurge.
I think you should add both-they are different appliances!

I think you should register for both. Why not? I have both and use my food processor WAY more, but they really aren’t either/or. They do completely different things…

I voted food processor just because I use mine more than the stand mixer but I registered for both.

What everyone else said! Register for both. Different applications for both appliances. I use my stand mixer most often, but my food processor is great for making massive amount of chicken salad for showers. It’s worth it to have both of them. Once you get used to your stand mixer, the hand mixer becomes secondary. I still have a stand mixer I use occasionally when I really need air in a batter. Hand mixers work better for that than stands. Tonight, I’m making coconut macaroons. I get to play with my stand mixer’s whip!

@2bMrsG: I totally agree that it’s the greatest kitchen invention known to man!
I use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer constantly. I think it was the best Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten. I can’t imagine my kitchen without it. My food processor only gets used infrequently.

They are completely different things I voted the mixer but I already have a KitchenAid Stand mixer so on my registery is a food processor
