@manda21:  I don’t want to freak you out, but I WOULD use a backup for seven days from when you start your pack. they do say that starting your pack late can result in pregnancy, especially if it’s more than one day late. Once you get your pills, use condoms for the first seven days. After that, you should be okay.

I would use a backup for the whole month. You’re basically restarting the whole birth control shebang at this point.

Talk to your doctor about using protection the whole month vs 7 days. If starting your first week late jump starts ovulation, you could ovulate later than 7 days after the start of the pack, I believe. I always air on the side of paranoia with stuff like this, though, haha.

@TattedNYBride:  +1.

i talked to my OBGYN about this before, and he said that most pregnancies on the pill occur when women miss the first pill/start it late because it extends the hormone-free week and can allow for ovulation.  i don’t really think that you will get pregnant from the sex you had on thursday, though. i would just use a back up method for the next 7 days! try not to stress out (wayyy easier said than done, i know! i recently freaked out about taking a pill late-it’s in my posting history if you want to see the responses i got for some more reassurance!).

well you defintely won’t get pregnant from the time you had sex on your inactive pills. I’d be sure to use a back up method for 7 days (or whatever it says in your pill instructions – they’ll tell you).  You can do longer if it makes you feel better, though.
