vc329 :   I know… it is hard to tell in the video’s because under that type of lighting because it really showcases the sparkle.  I accidentally got someone’s crushed ice and it looked very flat to e.  Not much life to it in natural daylight. I also got a canary crushed ice and you just can’t see the faceting like you can on a brilliant cut.   There is also a problem with color.  The colorless goes very grey and when you go to the near colorless, you are going to get some yellow or green undertones.  I went for a G/H in 14K yellow gold for the brilliant cut after researching everything.  It has very clear faceting and has a nice warm glow in the yellow gold.  The oval’s look more like a moissanite in general since I have had almost every cut now.  The rounds and the elongated ACC’s look the most like diamonds, but it depends on the look you are after.  I think in the oval size you are going for, it will look more realistic than my 11×9 size but I think you will be much happier with the brilliant cut personally.

hm2012 :  I think it’s going to look great! How many CADs do you typically go through before they get it close to what you want? I wonder if the u-prongs look less round because they’re currently not “welded” together like in the inspiration pic?

hm2012 :  I think it looks good but I know you are going for a very specific look here. I think we have to remember that they can do a lot but their skill level is not the same as using a US designer. When we started they were only cutting stones and in one year they are producing all these rings and have continued to get better and better.  SG now has a sales staff of 9 and last year it was just Cherry.

I am also told that lab diamonds are also available now for pave but the cost will obviously be higher than a moissanite equivalent.

angelwaye :  That’s true. I feel a bit guilty I’m on my third revision, so hopefully this CAD will be the last…

That’s great that they now have lab diamonds. I wonder if they’ll ever cut larger lab diamonds as they get bigger. I think I prefer moissanite, but I’m sure diamonds are better for certain cuts!

moissamight :  I don’t think they mind some revisions but I like to remind people that they have limitations to what they can do with their CAD program’s.  I am amazed at how far they have come in this past year alone.  We started with simple solitaire and 3 stones with no pave.  It is fun to watch the progressions but they will struggle with unusual designs.  I have seen some pretty incredible pieces though lately.  You can’t beat the price though and it hasn’t worked for everyone, but most people have been pretty satisfied. I think most of them have looked like pretty high quality rings.

I think cheaper lab diamonds are not far off.  They are also man made so the mark up mostly comes from the investment in the technology and then it will just be mark up and inflated costs so that it is a bit cheaper than mined diamonds.  I am hoping there is a market shift and maybe Lightbox will lead the way in this.  There really is no reason after investment costs for lab diamonds to be so expensive other than a man made market inflation.

Can anyone tell me how long shipping typically takes? I ordered an elongated OMC and it’s on it’s way to be via DHL. I can’t wait to see it!

Hi Bees,

My first CAD with added notes is below. They made the revisions and I just received the revised CAD. I’m wondering if I should adjust the thickness at the bottom. It looks like they increased the thickness all the way around since I originally wanted it that way when it was 2mm thick. With the revised height of the channel, I would want the thickness at the bottom to taper back to 2mm. But it’s a 3/4 eternity ring, so I wonder if there’s not going to be enough real estate to do that. I also don’t want to be too nitpicky if the difference is miniscule. Thoughts?

Inspiration (This ring is a little less than a half eternity. Mine is 3/4 eternity):

vc329 : This may be helpful to you.

Hi all! This is my first time posting on here. After some research between tianyu and starsgem. I decided to go with starsgem. The salesperson I’ve been working with is Mona. She’s very responsive is you catch her at the right time and I’ve been contacting her through whatsapp.

Anywho, I just wanted to share some of the videos that she sent me of my rings. She says they have to make adjustments.
