angelwaye :  that’s what I got too .I didn’t think they would understand my explanation so sent a picture, and hoping for the best. Someone on the board got a band with milgrain and it looked nice, so hope it works out.  πŸ™ Otherwise I’d be really sad, I could have gotten the regular pave .

lati :  This style is coming back in fashion again so they are going to start getting more requests for it. I don’t think it is an impossible ring for them to do.  Just make sure that you get a few good pic’s and ask for a 20 to 30 second video to verify before they ship.  They seem to produce under 10 second videos and it is hard to tell in that short amount of time.  Let them know how fine you want that milligrain border as well.  They seem to be able to do it relatively fine for machined applied but if you want it as small as they can go, let them know before they start production.

lati :

I went back and looked for your CAD and can see what you are describing. They would definitely need the wider band to acccomplish the look you’re going for.  I like the desgin, very pretty.

Hi Bees,

First time posting here πŸ™‚

After lots of research on weddingbee and reddit, I’ve finally taken the plunge and placed an order for a custom ring with starsgem.

I love dainty rings and decided to go for a two tone oval solitaire (design based off the Elle solitaire from TrueGem).

Currently working with Mona and she has sent over the first CAD for my ring. I would love to know your thoughts please :).

I’ve requested a custom cut EF oval measuring 6.5×4.5 for an elongated dainty look – however I am still trying to decide on the type of cut.

Should I go for a brilliant cut? Or their new ‘diamond cut’ which can be seen here:

In addition, the thickness and width on the CAD seems to be a little thicker than what I would like.

I’d like a thickness of approx 1.6mm/1.5mm and a width of 1.8mm tapering to 1.5mm going up the band for the finished ring.

What should the CAD say to reflect these final ‘mm’?

And which type cut do you guys think I should go for?

Ive attached pics of my inspo ring for everyone to refer to.

Thank you! 😊😊

pandabear17 :

I LOVE the Elle solitaire from True Gem!  They have such beautiful rings.  I based my SG ring off of the Rachel ring but modified it to have stones around the basket like your Elle.

About the CAD, the measurements that are on the CAD are BEFORE polishing, you will lose up to .02mm off of that.  Just make sure to let Mona know what your desired width, thickness and tapering nnumbers are AFTER polishing.  Star Gems is much better with CADS than Tianyu so try not to worry too much, but let her know for sure what you want.  I was so particular about my finished width and height, that I had her write it on the CAD so I knew for sure that the production team would know what I wanted my finished measurements to be.

Now about the stone, can Mona make another video in different lighting so we can see what the sparkle is like?  It looks like a pretty stone but the lighting in the video does not show how the stone stintillates, if you know what I mean.  I want to see if it has a nice sparkle.  Brilliant cut ovals in my opinion, look less diamond like, but it’s a personal preference.  I’ve seen some really pretty oval brilliant cuts by SG that made me swoon.  The diamond cut looks really good but need videos in different lighting, especially in outside light, I’m curious to know if it goes flat white.

lati :  I’m not sure if this helps, but the stones in my ring are 2mm. My CAD had 2.5mm total width, but I think the final measurement is more like 2.1 or 2.2mm because the channels are super thin. The bright pave is going to have a bit more metal along the side to accommodate the pave. Adding milgrain to the channel may also require a bit more. I’d say her suggestion about the stone size and the total width is accurate.

Hi all!

Mona sent me videos of the new “kind of crushed ice but not really" cut that they have. I guess a more appropriate description would be “brilliant and crushed ice". I had asked her for a cut like the harro gem video from my previous post.

Here are the two videos sent me. It’s supposed to be EF color. What do you all think??

j_bishae :  I saw your ring and that’s  what made me think they can do it! But I forgot to send it to them and now it’s too late. I’m getting a true channel set without the beads between the pave. 😭
