So now that we have been married for one month, my brain has switched from all weddings to all babies. We are not financially ready right now, but we hope to be in a better place this time next year.
I have been on BC for close to 10 years now, and my mom had several miscarriages over the years. And since I am a worry wart, I do fear that I may have trouble conceiving. So I am trying to ready up and prepare as much as I can.
I am exercising and eating healthier, and trying to drop some of my extra weight. I’m also trying to learn better ways to deal with my stress, but this is a big area of work for me.
What else should I be doing now? I already take a multi vitamin, but a friend said I should start pre natal? I wouldnt even know what to look for with that.

It sounds like you’re off to a great start! A healthy momma is necessary for a healthy baby 🙂
I went off BCP about 8 months before we started trying, and I started charting my temp every morning for a few months to make sure I actually do ovulate on my own. I quit charting after a few months because it was monotonous and we were using condoms to prevent anyway.
About 3 or 4 months before we were set to start TTC, I started charting again (I used the FertilityFriend app on my phone-it’s free!) and I also started prenatal vitamins. I bought some at the grocery store on sale, so I grabbed a 3 month supply. The biggie with prenatals is folic acid.
Oh, also if you’re looking to get more in tune with your body and your cycles, I hear Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a must read. It was on my to-do list, but we were lucky enough to get pregnant our first try so I never had a chance to read it or use OPKs or any of the other stuff other Bees will be able to tell you ALLLL about.
Most importantly, remember to relax and enjoy the ride 🙂

@DaneLady: Oh wow, 8 months? Is that the norm? I have my yearly next Spring so I was planning to talk to my doctor then.
Thanks for the book suggestion! I will check it out

@Bostongrl25: Meh, I don’t know if it’s the norm, it just happens to be when my pills ran out 🙂 I had planned to give myself at LEAST 6 months anyway. Most people do regulate within a few months, but I was on some kind of hormone or another for about 12 years. I’m also over 30, so I wanted to make absolutely certain that I ovulate on my own and with some sort of regular pattern. I regulated within 3 months.

folic acid folic acid folic acid (prenatals). You are doing everything else you should do already.
And I suggest maybe have a night of indulging in foods you cant have when you are pregnant.

Yes, I recommend taking prenatal vitamins during your TTC phase. I actually began taking them a couple of months after my wedding, i think last November. I began actively TTC last Spring and became pregnant this past July. I think my prenatal vitamins helped me achieve optimum health for my pregnancy and kept me with a good healthy consistent cycle during the TTC months. I’ve been taking One a Day and I’m still taking it throughout my pregnancy. Good Luck!
