- Wedding: June 2012
This is going to be the first Christmas my DH and I actually spend TOGETHER, and I’m SOOO excited!!! Our families live a few hours apart, so we’ve always been apart during the holidays. We’ve only been married since June, so while we’ve settled into ‘married life’, I’m so giddy to be able to go through our first holiday season as a family.
As a result, I’ve been giving a LOT of thought to what new traditions we can start up as a family. I’m bringing some of my family traditions to the table, he’s bringing some of his, and we’re (read: I’m) creating some brand new ones!
My family has always exchanged small gifts on Dec 6th (St. Nicholas Day – I’m guessing it might be a Polish thing?), and that’s something I told him we just MUST do. It’s the perfect time to exchange actual ‘Christmas’ gifts: ornaments, songs, movies, etc. to use all throughout the month of December. I’ve put a ton of thought into what special things I can get him. Here are the most exciting ones:
– when we went to get our live Christmas Tree last weekend, I had DH cut an extra disc off the bottom of the tree, with this in mind: http://imgfave.com/view/2616586 I spent *all evening* yesterday working on it and I think it turned out amazing!! I’ll post pictures once DH unwraps it 🙂
– I’ve been obsessed with ‘Elf on the Shelf’. It’s definitely something I want to do when we have kids, and I thought ‘why not start now?’ We don’t have the money to buy an actual ‘elf’, but luckily while unpacking ornaments I came across a little santa-bear that would be perfect. I wrote up a ‘letter’ from the bear, saying Santa sent him to keep the magic of Christmas alive. After DH unpacks it tomorrow, I’ll hide the bear somewhere around the house each evening, in true ‘Elf on the Shelf’ style.
Maybe these things are lame, but I’m just bursting with excitement! This is the perfect time to create new traditions that we can carry on for years to come. It makes the season that much more special!
What new traditions did you have with your SO the first holiday season you spent together?
