- Wedding: Disneyland - January 2016
Yesterday I went in for my first dress fitting, and I was so nervous. I didn’t lose any of the weight I wanted to (basically only a 5 lb loss), but I hoped I would be okay since my measurements were basically the exact same as when I tried on dresses a year ago. So I went and tried on my ballgown, it fits pretty well without alterations (which I admit makes me kind of sad because I tried on a size smaller when I was shopping and even though it was WAY too tight and it hurt to breathe I really liked how I looked in photos), and it was also the first time I tried it on with my faux fur wrap. I was pretty happy with how the wrap looked, and then the sales ladies brought me some gloves to try on and I LOVED them. I hadn’t ever really thought about them before but now I’m highly considering it. I know they’re not really “in” right now and my look is a little more “princessy” than what most prefer, but that kind of thing is totally me and I just felt so classy with them on.
But…I don’t want to look cheesy either. I really do like the gloves, a lot. I probably won’t be wearing a bracelet, but I will have a tiara and veil (not that tiara, that was just one from the shop but mine is quite similar). Again, this whole princess thing is ME, but I still don’t want to look ridiculous. I probably won’t keep the wrap on the entire day, just for the ceremony and some photos,
And yet I feel like no accessory is going to distract from how STUMPY my waist looks. I look at the photos and it’s so distracting and I’m sad I’m going to look like a clunky, ridiculous clown instead of an elegant, cupcake bride. I get married early January and I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t able to lose weight this entire year, then I’m not going to make any progress in just a couple months.
So…any words of wisdom? Or just general encouragement? I’ve been nervous about this appointment for awhile now and now it’s left me with all kinds of doubts 🙁

The photos are a little stretched on my screen, but from what I can see, you look fine — beautiful, in fact.
I don’t think you look stumpy at all. It also doesn’t appear to me that your weight is an issue when it comes to how the dress fits you; your body looks great, especially your arms. You look exactly how you say you want to look, in my opinion.

Your waist and dress look lovely but although you like them, I really think the long gloves and that wrap make you look too busy and break you up. You can carry the tiara and the dress but the whole ensemble does look a little dress-up.
I don’t think the fabric of either the gloves or the wrap are good quality but the gloves would be problematic anyway.
I really wouldn’t worry about your weight, you look gorgeous and also slim.
I’m a lot older than you and that may be skewing my opinion. If you were 100% happy I’d say nothing but given you aren’t, I think you are looking in the wrong place by focussing on your weight.

I think you look gorgeous! That dress is beautiful and stunning on your body.
I will add that I don’t really like the gloves… I think if you want the gloves, you should take off either the tiara, the shawl (and I love the shawl) or the veil, possibly two of them. I hope I’m not coming off as rude or mean, I don’t mean it that way! It’s princess-y, but almost *too* princess-y, like you raided the queens closet and decided to wear ALL of it instead of keeping it “understated princess”. Just my two cents though 🙂
I don’t think your waist look stumpy! You look great!!

Dress looks amazing and your waist and arms look tiny. Do not worry about the weight! I do think the fur stole + gloves is too much. It kind of throws off your proportions and covers you too much. pick one or the other. The gloves + tiara is very classy princess.

Firstly, you don’t look stumpy. You look like a bride, which I’m guessing is what you were aiming for as this is your wedding.
Secondly, the gloves, while not my personal style, add a definitely princess aspect to the look. I’m getting a Belle from Beauty and the Beast vibe… a very good thing! Do what makes you comfortable and what make you feel beautiful. I promise that any insecurities you have are likely imagined, and no one else will notice the things that are sticking out in your mind. You are your own worst critic.

based on the way that you described yourself in this post, I was expecting to scroll down and find somebody who was way different than you. Like. A petite person with some weight on them. And you’re like. Tall. And slender. I don’t know what’s going on, but you look gorgeous. And what better day then your wedding day to dress like a princess.

I do think there is a “dress up” costume-y quality to the last picture. I think you could do the gloves or the wrap, but not both. Maybe just have the wrap for some outdoor pics and when you guys leave for the night (with sparklers or whatever)? You have beautiful shoulders/arms, and I think you look much more elegant with them exposed. I also agree with a previous poster who questioned the quality of the wrap. Is there a fur in the family you could borrow, maybe?
Your weight and your waistline are PERFECT. Do not lose five pounds!

Thank you guys for your kind words. I guess I just feel down because when I look at the photos from the bridal shop I kept thinking how slim I looked (even if my ribs did feel like they were breaking). It’s such a difference from these photos and I can definitely tell and I’m really upset that I wasn’t able to lose a measly 15 lbs.
And thank you all for your opinions about the accessories. I know there can be some pretty snide remarks on the bee about the whole princess look so I’m glad you guys could let me down easy. Truth be told, I’m also worried about the cold since it’ll be outside in January which was my main reasoning for the wrap. I think I’ll just have the guage the weather the day of since I’d rather look a little over the top than be cold and miserable (I HATE being cold!). Plus once we’re inside I can remove the shawl and then it might be a little more understated. I’m so glad you guys don’t think I look completely ridiculous though, I never thought this appointment would leave me with so many mixed feelings and anxiety.

Honey, you look gorgeous. Trust us – you are a princess!

You look stunning and not stumpy at all!
But I do agree with the wrap throwing off your proportions. If you need to keep warm, I think a cardigan or shrug that’s fitted closely to your body would work better.

Based on your title I was really worried for you, but when I saw the pictures my jaw just dropped! You look like an absolute princess. Nothing to worry about at all. :]

I LOVE the dress and wrap. However, for the gloves (if you are going to wear them) I would go with a very fine cashmere or a stretch velvet. The gloves in the photo look almost like swimsuit material, and they clash with the winter fabric of the wrap. I am not opposed to gloves in general, but the ones in the photo just aren’t the right ones.

+1. Kate Middleton…can she dress poorly just once in her life please?
