- Wedding: July 2012
Fiance and I are having a pretty laid-back ceremony. We’re getting married on my parents’ property, having an afternoon tea reception, followed by a laidback BBQ and pizzas after party. All the set up and preparation on the day is being done by family and friends.
I have no issues with what we have planned – where I grew up, pretty much all the weddings were like this anyway. Very laid back, and usually held in someone’s backyard; so all my friends and family are used to weddings like this and, honestly, would be surprised if we did a “traditional” wedding with a formal reception. But fiance’s family and friends are used to the “proper” weddings, so even though we’ve been telling them the whole way through it’s just going to be a laidback thing, they seem to keep expecting it to be a big, formal affair.
Like I said, I don’t care what my friends and family think; most of them have the same views on weddings as me anyway, but I can’t help thinking that fiance’s friends and family will judge the wedding, or think we’re cheaping out (even though we’ve been stressing that we don’t want gifts or anything).
