@Diamond30:  I’m also very tall (6’1).  I thought ball gowns on me took up a lot of visual space – up due to my height and out due to the skirt.  You may want to try one on for shape before you fall in love with them.  I *hated* the way I looked in them.  I felt gigantic.  It actually ruined a day of dress shopping (and I’m usually able to let things like that roll off my back.)

I loved lace keyhole a line dresses.  I thought for sure that’s what I’d end up wearing.  The ones I tried on just didn’t work.

Then I tried on a bunch of tighter fitting mermaid style gowns.  Yes!  This quickly became my dress shape.  It played up my height in a positive way.  And it showed off some great areas (my butt and my boobs!)  I don’t have much hip.  I’m very straight on the bottom half.  It gave me curves where I’ve never had them before.

Never in a million years would I have thought this would be my dress.  But it is.  And it’s perfect.

My advice would be to pick out dresses of different styles until you know what you like and don’t like on your body.  You’ll probably find that even across different shapes there will be common elements – focus on those!  It’ll help narrow down dresses once you know what shape(s) work on you.

@Diamond30:  I LOVE that JA dress, but then again, I’m biased because that’s my gown Smile   I originally purchased a mermaid silhouette, but then fell in love with JA  8682’s beautiful lace and light gold color, so I knew I had to buy it. You look like you have similar taste as me in wedding gowns because I also love all of the other simple yet elegant ballgowns you posted.

@Diamond30:  I know what you mean. I absolutely loved VW Lisbeth, but it was way over my budget, and I couldn’t justify paying that much for a dress.  I actually wasn’t expecting to like the JA gown (I didn’t like it at all on the rack), but my friend convinced me to try it on, and I’m very happy that she did SmilePlease keep us posted on whatever you end up buying, and definitely post pics if you can!

@Diamond30:  Have you looked at used Vera Wang gowns? There’s some amazing bargains to be found, and some of the dresses haven’t even been worn yet!

I’m also very tall and can see the Justin Alexander dress working really well. A-line dresses are so much nicer on tall girls than big ball gowns, like someone else said before, when trying on ball gowns I thought they made me feel/look even taller and bigger.
