Although….. the other side of me wants to know if we can ADD people to the list.  I’d LIKE everyone who is an idiot to just leave.

@SpecialSundae:  There were more signatures on a British petition to make Jeremy Clarkson prime minister… I wouldn’t put much weight in either.

LMAO!  As an American, am I allowed to sign such a petition????  DH and I love Top Gear!

I mean, I appreciate these people’s freedom of speech. They do not approve of the outcome of the election. That’s okay. I doin’t think much will come of it.

So these people who want to secede…will they be the first to complain when they no longer have federal benefits, such as a military to protect them, social security, etc.? Imagine the border problems we’d have..it’s bad enough now..I can’t imagine.

I live in Texas, and as Miss Peanut said, we are not all batshit crazy here! Though many are. Unfortunately.

@Miss Apricot:  I can’t see how they could stop you, although it’s rather old now.

Apparently Texas already has at least 23,000 signatures…

ETA: The article that was posted only 3 hours ago said 23,00 signatures. I just looked myself and Texas has over 28,500 signatures.

I honestly don’t know what to think, I am of two minds on this…Hm…

Well if enough people want a change then a change there will be.

Guess I am going to waving GOOD-BYE a lot! See ya!

Sore losers! My candidate didn’t win (Gary Johnson) and I am not threatening to leave the country!

This isn’t how a state starts the secession process. These “petitions” can be set up by anyone with an account on whitehouse.gov— and anyone with an email address can get an account. It’s basically a bunch of private citizens setting up online popularity contests, and any idiot with an Internet connection can “sign” the petition. As many times as they want. With whatever name they want. Oh and the media hyping the hell out of it.

To give perspective, a Facebook meme of a cat in a tinfoil hat has gotten more people to click its link than any of these so-called “petitions.”

Please don’t buy into the nonsense that helps divide us.

I think it’s entertaining that so many people believe that a petition is going to be the way a state successfully secedes from the Union. Also, I don’t know about the other states but it looks like South Carolina (in 2005 at least) received $1.35 in federal money for every $1.00 paid.  Seems like that could be a problem.

I really hope that SC doesn’t secede. I really would like to finish out my undergraduate degree. I know that my family will be big supporters of this secession (I was always told growing up that “The South will Rise Again” ), but in my opinion, Obama has been a fairly good president. Gas prices have been stable, he is ending the war (supposedly) he caught and killed Osama, he has lobbied to keep the Pell Grant so that poor college kids like me can actually afford school, etc. He certianly hasn’t been the worst president ever. And his presidency is no reason to leave the union.

@SpecialSundae:  hahahaha love it! Yeah 9000 signatures is nothing, given SC has a population of 4.6 million.
