This apparently happens after a lot of elections. My first instinct is to say “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out,” but my current state of residence has one of the petitions. So, um…give me a couple weeks to get packed up first and THEN buh-bye. 😉
And, as someone said, these are rando nutjobs IN the states, not the state government itself. No one needs to worry that this is actually going to happen. It’s sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Well at least people aren’t becoming completely unhinged over a fair and democratic election process in a country with presidential term limits and a well established system of checks and balances…
Civil war sounds like a MUCH better solution!! Good plan guys!

As someone who lives in a state that pays more to the federal gvt than it receives, I’d be happy to stop subsidizing many of those states threatening to secede if my money is too good for them. I say, let’s give the sane folks a chance to leave those states, then wave goodbye

This whole thing its just an over the top outcry right now, and its sad that Texas is at the forefront. I do love living in Texas, but this petition is no surpirse to me, these are the same people who voted Rick Perry to serve 3 terms!
Nothing will happen, however, so I put no time and effort into this ridiculousness.

Way to be patriotic, everyone who signed that petition. Way to also think you’re more important than ~51% of people who vote.

This is all I have to say to those idiots who signed the petition:

I saw this today too. My state (ND) is also on the list. And people are all like “Well we do have the best economy, and are self efficient. Might as well be.” and I’m all “WTF.”

We stuck it out through Bush, who was 80 billion times more extreme than Obama. The South needs to put its big girl panties on and suck it up.

I hate the “its my way or the highway” attitude. these states/people need to grow the hell up!

FH’s brother’s state is on this list, FH is not happy

racheljoy: Did they really say that they’re “self efficient” or was that a typo? Because that would be really funny if they actually think they’re self “efficient”.

hardly just the south considering Rhode Island, Delaware, New York, and many other non-south and solidly blue states are on it as well. California has nearly 7,000 signatures.
I very clearly remember a lot of the same attitude (except it was about moving to Canada) in 2004. It was just as ridiculous then as this is now.
It’ll all be forgotten in a month.
