You will definitely need a sign. Don’t think of it as guests “stealing” cupcakes…how are they to know that you plan on doing the cutting? I would make a sign that’s simple and short. “Please wait until cake has been cut before enjoying a cupcake” or whatever…then plan to cut that cake ASAP so that they can enjoy their dessert after dinner.

I don’t think you can.  I mean, you’ve put food in front of your guests and now you’re going to tell them they can’t have them?  Marshmellow experiment? 🙂

We put up a cute little chalkboard sign that said  “Guests are welcome to have a cupcake newlyweds have cut the cake” or something like that… I don’t remember the exact wording, but it worked and no one seemed offended.

I dont see anything wrong with a message of the sort , I plan on doing the same thing  just lets the guest know that they are welcome to the cupcakes after the cake cutting is done

I didn’t even think about this at all.  We are also doing a cupcake “cake”.  I will have to remember this.

I was out at a candy store the other day and they had this sign next to their samples. I thought it would work perfectly for the cupcakes as well.

It said:

There’s not a ton,

So please take one.

Leave some for the rest,

Thanks! You’re the best.

So I just realized this wasn’t the board I was looking for to post that, but if anyones curious I’ll leave it up there.

Maybe something like this to solve your problem:

They sure look great,

But please do wait.

A delicious treat they’ll make

After we’ve cut our cake.

OR

They sure look great,

But please do wait.

What a treat they’ll make

Once we’ve cut our cake.

Something along those lines.   A little rough, since I just made them up.  I’ll update if I come up with something better.
